Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - RP56006-53

  • Installation brackets mount beneath your truck bed to provide attachment points for 5th-wheel rails
  • Base rails sit in truck bed and allow installation of 5th-wheel trailer hitch
  • Fast, simple installation with outboard design
    • Extended-length base rails allow for mounting farther out from truck frame
      • Avoids underbed components for easier access
      • Cuts down installation time by more than half compared with universal kits
    • Custom brackets mount to existing holes in truck frame, minimizing drilling and measuring
  • Thoroughly tested kit is compliant with strict Society of Automotive Engineers guidelines
  • Kit includes brackets, 10-bolt rails and Grade-8 hardware
  • Compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley 5th-wheel hitches
  • Sturdy, black powder coated steel resists corrosion

Specs:

  • Base rail dimensions: 48" long x 1-7/8" tall
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Reese's outboard installation kit for your fifth-wheel trailer hitch was designed with safety and convenience in mind. Just like the original custom mounting brackets, these brackets install using existing holes in the truck frame, minimizing installation time. The biggest difference with this outboard kit is the extended-length rails. These above-bed rails are 5 inches longer than standard, universal fifth-wheel rails so that they will match up with the mounting points on the brackets, which sit below the bed and outside of your truck's frame. The result is a much simpler installation process, wherein most underbed components can be easily avoided. Because you are working outside the frame rails, you also have easier access with your tools and more room to work, making the whole process less of a pain.

The base rails included in this installation kit feature a standard 10-bolt design. Each of these rails attaches to the underbed brackets with two carriage bolts at both ends. A single bolt is used in the center of each rail to further secure it in your truck bed. The result is a set of base rails that remains firmly in place thanks to 10 points of contact.

This entire installation kit is built to be SAE J2638 compliant and has been extensively tested per specified accelerated-life-cycle criteria for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. The requirements for testing are based on the European-style test of 900,000 cycles, making this testing process among the most thorough and intensive in the industry.

Review from a similar Quick-Install in Fifth Wheel Installation Kit

Five hours to install; which included a half hour searching for the key to the padlock on my spare. E-Trailer linked me to an installation video which really helped. I took my time and measured three times before I drilled the bed. Installation is a lot easier with someone to hold the bolts from the top. I fabricated mounting brackets on my last truck, but these were worth the money and I didn't have to drill the frame! Good design and straight-forward installation. My only issue was the video didn't show one bolt install that secured the driver's side rear bracket to the bottom of the frame. I was going off the video only and wasn't using the written instructions. Make sure you go step by step using both. Also, some parts are clearly for a different application so there will be a few parts left over. My experience with e-trailer was awesome.

Very happy how soon the product I ordered was at my door step. 3 days after I ordered it. Put the base to my 5th wheel on my 2017 250 diesel sd took me around 5 hrs, would have been faster with 2 people. The base fit my husky 16k prefect when I done torquing all the bolts. Going to use this hitch to pull my 29.5 Durango EZ 1500.

They fit truck just like they were supposed too. Couple hr install with having to remove spare tire and heat shields to get access to bolt locations. Been supporting fifth wheel through thousands of miles. Thanks for helping me find right product for my truck!

Review from a similar Quick-Install in Fifth Wheel Installation Kit

Can’t use the carriage bolts that you supplied, except in the middle of the rail. There’s no room to put a socket on the nut between the beam and bed, there’s just enough room to use an open end wrench and torque the bolts from the bed side, Which means you have to buy 8 bolts. A video stated the same thing, you believe it’s a one man’s job, it’s not. That’s why you supplied the carriage bolts.

We ordered a bracket kit for our new 2017 F350. It was needed to install our Reese fifth wheel. which we use to pull our RV. Product was on back order by manufacturer, however Delisa at Etrailer diligently kept us very informed with updates & shipping status. My husband & son were able to install in a couple of hours. Looks great, outstanding craftsmanship & over exceeded our expectations! We would highly recommend!!!!!

Review from a similar Quick-Install in Fifth Wheel Installation Kit

The kit arrived within a few days-very happy about that. very easy to install. the directions were clear and pictures good. I went to the trouble of using a sharpie to mark the part numbers on everything before I started just to keep to all straight.

I would note that on the 2017 F350 diesel the only problem bolt was on the driver side inline with the DEF tank. long skinny arms with flexible wrist is ideal (not what I have). I would also suggest taping the shims onto the outboard frame brackets to save yourself some frustrations. otherwise they are difficult to get and keep in place, especially on the driver side.

the two nuts that go inside the frame tube come on/with a nice handle although a bit light on the wield. here again save yourself and tape the shims on before you try to insert two things into that hole, align and fasten the bolt-by yourself. I used an extension with wobble head and socket to turn the bolt while holding the nut "assembly" in place.

I did remove the rear wheels and fender well liner-a must.

Lastly, great customer service on the phone. Pleasant and patient answering questions.

Very easy to install. Measure twice, drill once. I used every piece of galvanic corrosion tape to protect the aluminum bed in the kit, probably could have used a little more. Even though I painted the edge of the holes after drilling, maybe some sort of insulator could be used there also.

I installed the hitch and brackets myself and am very satisfied with the bracket kit. I’ve towed my fifth wheel about 6 k during the past year and am very satisfied. The instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Comments
I have towed my fifth wheel about 15000 miles in total since installing the rail and bracket kits. No problems to this point and don’t see any reason to think I’ll have any problems in the future. I have nothing but praise for ETrailer. The people are re knowledgeable and give good insight on the installation process. Many thanks

  • Fifth Wheel Base Rail Recommendation for a 2008 Ford F150 with a 5-1/2 ft Bed
For fifth wheel installation rails for a 2008 Ford F150 I recommend you go with a Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # RP56006-53. This is a custom install kit that will install in about half the time as a universal kit and will minimize drilling. You should note that on a truck with a bed as short as yours you will want to use a Sidewinder pin box to give you the required clearance to make sharp turns without cab interference. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will need to know...

Since these are outboard rails they will actually install easier than the inboard rail kits.

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Installed on a 2010 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 Foot Bed
Since your 2010 Ford F-150 has a 5-1/2 foot bed, you need to use a stationary 5th wheel trailer hitch and a Sidewinder in order to achieve sufficient clearance to tow a 5th wheel trailer. To determine if it is possible to safely tow a 5th wheel, you will need to take some measurements first. To start, the center of the hitch pin jaws will be 1-1/2 inches forward of the centerline of the rear axle. Measure from that point to the cab of the truck (measurement A).
