Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
Selecting a Weight-Distribution System
The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.
To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.
Unique Features of Reese Round-Bar Weight Distribution
The easy-to-use, block-style washer on the Reese system makes adjusting the tilt of the weight-distribution head a snap. This uniquely shaped washer can be rotated and positioned between blocks on the weight-distribution head for simple, secure positioning. And the numbered sides provide reference points should you need to adjust your system between different tow vehicles. This is a huge improvement over the standard pin-and-washer method, which involves piling washers - one on top of another - onto a difficult-to-access pin to obtain the desired tilt.
The round spring bars of this system slide up into the weight-distribution head and secure with pins for quick, easy installation. With a tapered design and hot rolled steel construction, these bars offer superior flex, ensuring a smooth, controlled ride for both your tow vehicle and your trailer. In addition, these specially designed bars have rounded, hooked ends, making them the only kind of spring bars that can function with Reese's active-style, dual-cam sway control (sold separately).

Bought this hitch and the CAM bars hoping to control trailer sway. Still have issues with sway so kind of disappointed with result. Too much money invested now to try another system.1432310

This system will give you weight distribution however in order to also receive the max anti sway benefit you will need to add part # RP26002 Reese Dual Cam High-Performance Sway Control for Steel Trailer Frames $258.51.

Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
Josh was very helpful when I discovered that UPS had done something that made my hitch undeliverable. He expedited the process to get a new one shipped out once UPS had done their investigation. It's a very solid construction, and I am looking forward to our inaugural trip with the new camper this weekend.1490691
Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
Package was received on time and UPS delivered it intact and box was in good shape even though it was very heavy. It took a couple days until I got to open it for install on my truck and trailer. I was disappointed to find that the fasteners were missing for installation of brackets on trailer frame.1412475

works great on my 2021 Frontier, towing a 3500-4000 lb camper. Have run 2300 miles this season, sometimes in really windy conditions, and the hitch makes all the drama go away. Wish I'd had a similar hitch on my previous larger truck.1381132
Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
I have not installed the hitch yet but I've checked and all parts are there and everything is in good shape. Unfortunately the shipping box was pretty beat up and re-taped. And UPS delivered it to the wrong address. A neighbor called several hours after delivery was "confirmed." I was able to retrieve it in one piece. In addition the first one I ordered UPS took back even before it was delivered because the shipping box was coming apart. It seems that Reese should do some work on their packaging. etrailer was very responsive to the first issue and shipped out a new hitch the next day!1243715

Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
Works great, makes a huge difference. Used on a 2014 Tacoma pulling a ~5k travel trailer. Without the weight distribution hitch, the truck was bobbing all over the place and it was exhausting to drive. Now the truck sits level and tows much more smoothly.
I took away one star because the method of installing/removing the bars is not as good as I've seen on other hitches. Unless you wear gloves, your hands will get all greasy and there are a bunch of loose parts that you have to keep track of. It works, but definitely not as slick as some of the (pricier) options out there.1452175

Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
After all the reviews I thought maybe they figured it out to package the kit a bit better but NOPE here I am needing this in two days and it’s absolutely useless now! Box came destroyed. Missing spring Bar Covers and the two pins. Anger is an understatement, I’m on a tight timeline.1448915

Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
This company has been CRAP. I ordered this hitch 8/25/22, it came missing 19 parts and the box was damaged and packed inside another box. I contacted etrailer and was working with someone for 1 month to get a replacement or the missing parts. When they stopped responding to me. I finally got another person to respond and I was told the original person no longer works for the company. I am starting the process all over.
They tell me this item comes from the manufacture and they can't provide parts; refunds; or shipping information for a return without the manufactures responding. The manufacture has not responded to etrailer in 2 months.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT OR THIS RETAILER TO ANYONE.1458443

Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
Do not buy. Packaging sucks. Cardboard box falls apart and can’t be delivered twice. etrailer is horrible on reshipment and returns. Total pain in the ass. Customer service is horrible, etrailer just kept passing me off to the next person. Had to order same product from [online] but they reinforced the boxing. Actual hitch is awesome, just order from a reputable dealer.1447462

Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
For the price, this has been a good hitch. The setup is pretty simple as long as you're a little mechanically inclined and have the tools for the job. Placement of the round bars and their removal each trip is simple. We have had zero issues with trailer sway and have no sag in the rear of tow vehicle. Very confident towing with this hitch. The only drawback is that the hitch will eat a significant portion of your vehicle's payload if you have a smaller tow vehicle. Just do the math and don't overload.1407354

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company to anyone looking for trailer parts and for construction of same.

Review from a similar Round Reese WD in Weight Distribution Hitch
Hope you don't have a problem. The hitch i ordered showed up in a mangled box and I had to order missing parts again, it happens, no big deal. The assembly required torturing down a nut that would not tighten but since I had already received parts from the factory (not my fault) they told me to go buy something at my local hardware store as they would not be helping any more. I did and got the hitch finished but will not be doing business with these people again.1402575
If you choose a 2013 Ford Escape that has the factory tow package and has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds then it can handle the light tent trailer without issue. What you will want to look at is the gross combined weight rating. This rating is the most the vehicle and trailer can be including passengers, fuel, and luggage.
Ford did not put this specific information in the owners manual that I found online, only how to find it on the vehicle. If you look in the drivers side door jamb... view full answer...
I recommend using the Reese Weight Distribution Kit with Shank, # RP65509, for towing a travel trailer with your 2002 Chevy Trailblazer. This weight distribution system has a maximum tongue weight rating of 600 pounds.
It is a good idea to determine the tongue weight of your trailer to make sure that it does not exceed the tongue weight rating of the weight distribution system. I am including an article that covers some common questions about weight distribution that you may want to take... view full answer...
You have a pretty standard A-frame trailer frame that would work well with weight distribution hangers and brackets. You may have to temporarily remove the battery box to install the frame hangers.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight... view full answer...
You will need to measure the trailer frame to see if the mounting location (see instructions) for the Reese Weight Distribution Kit, item # RP65509, will work. The center of your ball coupler to the attachment point on the trailer should be approximately, 27 to 30 inches. You can adjust this slightly to make the system fit with the propane bottles and battery holder on your trailer but the recommendation is that the chains be as perpendicular to the trailer frame as is possible. view full answer...
You may have a number of issues that need to be addressed. My first reaction is that if your rear end is squatting so much that it is causing issues with the steering and traction of the vehicle, you may have the trailer loaded with too much tongue weight. Try adjusting the load rearward somewhat to eliminate a portion of the tongue weight. Be careful not to adjust the tongue weight too low because dangerous sway will be introduced if the tongue weight is not sufficient. You should have... view full answer...
You may need to adjust the ball angle on the weight distribution system to level the spring bars with the trailer frame when the unit is hooked up. I have included a link to the instructions for the Reese Heavy Duty Round Bar Weight Distribution System, # RP65509. The instructions you need start on the top of page 2.
If the trailer still is not level after making the above adjustments, you may need to lower the ball mount for a level ride, especially since you stated that your tow vehicle... view full answer...
A weight distribution system with a tongue weight range of 800-1,200 lbs (I am assuming that's what you meant) is going to be very harsh on a trailer that only has 300 lbs of tongue weight. You will need a much lighter rated system. Ideally you get a system where your tongue weight falls right into the middle of the systems tongue weight range and you'll get the best overall towing experience. The Reese weight distribution system part # RP65509 would be a great option as it has a tongue... view full answer...
The Reese Weight Distribution System w Shank - Round Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW item # RP65509 works by applying leverage to either side of your setup. This transfers the load at the rear of the vehicle to all axles on your tow vehicle and trailer. This is done by creating tensions in the bars attached to your trailer frame. In order for the system to work properly there has to be tension on the bars and the chains as tight as possible. The metal on metal set up of a weight distribution... view full answer...
The recommended tongue weight range for Reese Heavy Duty Round Bar Weight Distribution system, part # 49570, is 600-1,200 pounds. Unless you get the camper up to a 600 pound plus tongue weight after loading, this system would be overkill. It probably would not damage anything, but the ride would be very rough.
We have smaller systems that would probably suit your needs better and not create a rough ride. Reese part # RP65509 has a tongue weight range of 200-600 pounds. You trailer is already... view full answer...

It is possible to use weight distribution on a boat trailer. You will need to add a pole tongue adapter like Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems, # RP58393. This adapter will fit tongue widths from 1-5/8 inches to 5 inches and tongue heights from 3 inches to 6 inches.

The replacement spring bars for the Reese # RP65509 are no longer available from the manufacturer, unfortunately. That being said, if one of the original bars broke, you may need one that has a little more capacity, which we do carry.
The Reese Replacement Round Bar # RP58114 is rated from 400 pounds at the minimum up to 800 pounds at the maximum. The bars for your # RP65509 are rated from 200 pounds to 600 pounds. So it isn't too much higher. However, you should double check your loaded... view full answer...
I looked up pictures of your 2012 KZ Sportsmern Classic 19bh and I can't see any reason a weight distribution system couldn't be used as it appears to have a very standard A-frame. What I would recommend is the Reese Kit part # RP65509 as it has has a tongue weight range of 200 to 600 lbs and then the bolt on brackets part # RP58305 since you have the wider 3 inch frame. view full answer...
Normally for trailer frames like yours where there is interference above the frame you have to use a set of bolt on weight distribution frame brackets like the # RP58305. Normally this doesn't void the warranty of a trailer. Then you could use a weight distribution system like the part # RP65509 which would work great with your tongue weight range.

Hello Bill, the Reese Weight Distribution System w Shank - Round Bar part # RP65509 does come with a shank with a maximum drop of 1-1/4" from top of hitch receiver opening. It sounds like you need a shank with more drop to accommodate for the height difference when towing with the Ford Ranger. If you don't have room for the snap-up brackets you can still use a weight distribution system. You would need to use the Chain Hangers for Reese Weight Distribution Systems item # RP58305. These bolt-on chain hangers provide an attachment point for your weight-distribution spring bars without interfering with trailer-frame-mounted items. view full answer...
It is always better to go with a larger system rather than one that is not rated high enough. A system that is rated too low will not be effective because the tongue weight will exceed the ability of the spring bars. On the other side, a system rated much higher than the actual tongue weight will provide a stiffer ride. So it is always better to go to a higher rated system than a smaller one.
For you I think a system rated for 800 to 1,500 pounds would be more ideal because that will cover... view full answer...
