Forged, Self-Latching Jaw
The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.
The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.
Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.
Quiet, Comfortable Ride
In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.
King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning
This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.
Easy-to-Use Latching Handle
This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

It works very well. Easy in and out. Only issue is with my F-450 and the Grand Drdign 397, it is not tall enough for the pin box to clear the side rails of the bed when more than a 45 degree angle to the trailer. I wish it where two inches taller1131063

Review from a similar M5 in Fifth Wheel Hitch
This would be a three but etrailer's customer service is excellent. Everyone I've dealt with has been exceptional.
Reese needs to get their act together. Three month backorder (okay COVID-19 has everyone backed up). Finally get the order and the release handle grip is destroyed, just crumbled almost like it was cooked. I have to adjust the pucks, which is expected, but Reese installed the Carter pins, which are a [beast] to remove in order to adjust the puck, suggestion Reese just leave them out for the installer to install. The the final [blow] from Reese on top of their otherwise great paint job, the bolt holes for the assembly are filled with paint, Reese howabout running a thread chase through these threads so the installer doesn't risk cross threading the bolt, it's just the small things that would make an otherwise outstanding hitch better.1118439
Thanks for your words. Customer Service will reach out to you about the broken handle.

Review from a similar M5 in Fifth Wheel Hitch
We are so very pleased with our 27K hitch! The order process was easy and delivery was very fast. We have used a Reese hitch for years now. We just upgraded our fifth wheel RV and it wieghs in at 16K our old hitch was an 18K hitch so we were within 2K of max weight. We felt that that was too close so we went big, it feels (pulls) better and I feel more safe knowing that we have plenty of hitch. Thank you for such great products. Jason and Patricia1128614
The hitch is amazing, we have been pulling our 42 fifthwheel all over and its like it isnt even there. No pops or squeaks either. Very very pleased.

Review from a similar M5 in Fifth Wheel Hitch
Couldn’t be easier to use or more heavily built and secure. Only one issue. Though I didn’t have to change out bolts or use a tap and die set to put the base together, I would highly recommend having the correct tap and die available, just in case. From what I have read many people have had problems with these bolts/holes. I only had an issue with one, but it wasn’t fun. I don’t have a T and D available. Pretty sure it would have been a cinch if I had. ALSO, most people I know don’t have the correct type of torque wrench for the job. If you have to buy one it might be cheaper to have a trusted shop assemble the hitch. It’s pretty easy, but the wrench isn’t cheap, even if you buy an inexpensive (cheap) one. I rated 5 stars because I read all of the reviews and issues, bought with my eyes wide open, and was very happy to find that the bulk of the comparatively few negative reviews were either exaggerate, a QC issue that had been dealt with, or I just got plain lucky. I’ve had the hitch for 7months pull a 16,000 GVWR 5th wheel of my own and have pulled for friends.1489429
It's a little heavy but manageable for the average fellers. I pieced it together in the bed of my truck as it will be a permanent fixture and as the installation brochure pointed out. They did paint the threaded holes witch could make installation of bolts a little time consuming but with my 1/2" impact it was a breeze, also was the 220 fps of torque with a 4" extension and a torque wrench rental from auto zone witch is free. The castle nuts with the cutter pins were set right but one, removed the one as they did provide 4 extra. Took me about 45 minutes to assemble. Be sure to grease top plate so that thier is no bind. Very happy as this is my very first 5th wheel hitch install and hooks with ease and the green/red indicator is great, and tows nice.1213072
Comments
Perfect fit, easy hook up, one thing though when you have this in a short bed pickup the 5th wheel rubs the corner of the cab a little but no biggie. I would definitely buy again and highly recommend.

Tried to install this on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500, dual rear wheel, long bed, 4x4, diesel engine truck. The clamp style mounting simply does not work. The ONLY way I can see this working is by drilling added holes in the frame of the truck at the front end of the side plates. This is because of a bend in the frame at the clamp location. Also at this location the frame is boxed in and any bolt holes will be hidden. Bolts would have to fished in with bolt wires.1277753
I see that you are stuck on some parts of this installation. I have gotten in contact with one of our technicians and they had mentioned that you should be able to find what you need in the instructions on page 5. https:www.reeseprod.comproduct-assetsinstallN30926.pdf

The installation video was great and assembling the hitch went very well. I have a tonneau cover and it mentioned that you may need to place the handle upside down. I actually attached mine right side up and just tilted the hitch to that side and had plenty of space to close the cover.1310823
Just received yesterday, will be having it installed on Monday and will be pulling my new camper home next Saturday. Will update afterwards with pics1175001
Still works good, but every once in a while it dosent want to latch around the kingpin.

Review from a similar M5 in Fifth Wheel Hitch
Overall I’m happy with how the M5 functions. The assembly instructions were a little vague which meant I had to do it twice. I am disappointed in how the side accent panels are (were) attached. ALL the cheap little panel fasteners were broken and so I’m operating without them. I’ll keep the nylon spacers and use bolts instead of that plastic garbage. I would have sent it back if it were not for taking delivery of my camper the next day.1239874
I have reached out to the manufacturer and they are shipping out new fasteners. I will email you the tracking information.

Review from a similar M5 in Fifth Wheel Hitch
I have used your product for many years and have always been very happy. On the installation and assembly I have the following comments. To qualify myself, I spent many years running facilities that builds equipment for distribution all over the world.
Someone needs to have a discussion with your assembly Supervisor and Technicians about installing the cotter pins on the crown nuts. They obviously KNOW they are going to have to be removed to adjust the BY HAND tightness that has to be done during the installation process because they send (4) extra cotter pins for replacement purposes. I would recommend that the assembler or technician bend the pin just enough to keep it in the CROWN NUT DURING SHIPPING with an explicit WARNING that states "FULLY SET COTTER PINS AFTER FINAL HAND TIGHTNING ADJUSTMENT". The way mine came in, It was a pure pain in the ass to get them out.... the technician had hammered them flat to the top of the bolt. If I were your company, I would be concerned about the people that did not adjust the puck clearance because of the pain in the ass it is to get the pins out. (I just happened to have all the tool to do this, I'm sure a lot of people don't). Apparently your QC department only spot checks the pull handles for fitment on the slide plate. I had to open mine up to make it fit. Also, you could use prevailing torque nuts for connecting this arm and do away with the lock washer. I would say the device is very good as it is now. It would be Fantastic with more thought given for the installer concerning the cotter pin issue. I have looked at many of the Ratings and it seems the cotter pin issue is the number 1 issue. The paint on the threads is common on everything that is powder coated. I hope this helps your company. Oh, I changed my rating to a 5 star because I really like the final product
After a lot of research, I chose the Reese M5. The design is great. Assembly was a breeze, and it installs and removes very easily. The fitment with my 2019 Silverado puck system is perfect. I am much more comfortable with the single jaw hitch and with the M5's Easy Latching Handle, its a breeze to hitch and unhitch. etrailers price made it an even easier decision. Sometimes a lower price means a lower quality. Absolutely not the case here with etrailer. Couldn't be more happy with this purchase, Reese and etrailer829792
This is my first fifth wheel so it makes sense that it is my first 5th wheel hitch. Well, I couldnt be happier with the M5. It is very user friendly. The Red Green indicator gives me peace of mind when hitching up and knowing I am securely locked in. I am in the construction trades and need the full bed of my truck frequently. Removing the M5 is a breeze whenever I need to haul or transport something. I would buy again and definitely recommend the M5. 100 Satisfied. Thanks Reese and etrailer.

hitch works well, should have adjusted to highest level as when exiting a steep lot with a sharp turn i "kissed" the side rail of my truck with my 5th wheel. i'm not sure i like the new single jaw vs the old style though. aslo my lock indicator is already broken but just need to visually verify the lock.1217561

Product works fine, the only issue i have had with it is the visible indicator showing that the hitch is engaged no longer works.

Would rate higher but have not needed to use the receiver yet.1483174
Overall it was really easy to put together. Its light enough move in and out and very sturdy. I did not have a clearance issue with the Backflip cover regarding the stock handle. See pics.
Just a heads up, I had an issue with the threading in the legs, etrailer was very understanding and sent me out replacements supper fast. I contacted Reese regarding paint guncked up in the threading and they were aware of the issue, they recommended running a wire brush or a tap to clean it out. 769580
One year later. No issues. I get complemens about how easy the hitch is to use, the ability to slide stuff under it, and how much room I still have in the bed with the hitch in. Would buy again.

Review from a similar M5 in Fifth Wheel Hitch
Installed into a 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 AT4. Assembly was fairly straightforward. Shipping was fast. I haven't used it yet, but this is my second Reese hitch. I purchased this one because of the always ready to receive option, and the locked not locked indicator.1283099
We've been pulling a fifth wheel weighing around 12,500 lbs for around 2800 miles and this hitch has been great. We have no chucking, it locks securely, is very solid, and was very easy to install in our 2020 GMC 3500HD Sierra. We like the single jaw because it is easy to see it wrap fully around the pin so we know it is firmly latched, even without looking at the plastic indicator bar.1482872

Review from a similar M5 in Fifth Wheel Hitch
I recently purchased a Reese M5 20K hitch for my new Silverado 3500HD, Crew Cab, 8’ bed. As usual, Etrailer pricing was very good and with free shipping to boot. The hitch arrived via UPS in just a few days after placing the order.
Following the detailed instructions provided by Reese, the install into the factory “puck” system, was fairly straight forward. However, a word of caution concerning the install. There are 4 15/16” bolts that need to be torqued to 220-foot pounds and are somewhat difficult to get to. Fortunately, I was able to borrow a torque wrench that would accommodate the recommended foot pounds of torque.
Also, you may have an issue if you need to place the hitch at its highest position. The release handle might protrude above the bed rails of your truck in this position. This will be a problem if you have a bed cover. Reese is/was well aware of this issue and sells an after-market handle that will correct this issue. Etrailer lists this handle on their Web page.

I want my B&W back. Not happy at all with this, and etrailer customer service was just as bad. The locking indicator was broke when it came out of the box. I contacted etrailer, they said they would contact the manufacturer, well 10 days later still haven't heard back. Also the locking mechanism has a bolt that goes through into the ouck system. That bolt has 1 side flat, to allow for posistive placement, well reese decided it would be fun to install this 90 degrees the wrong way, and not align the flat side of the bolt up with the notch in the handle. So now to to remove it, the threads will be trashed, and or the positive placement will slip some, if I just twist it to align. Horrible Q and A on Reese's part, and horrible customer service on etrailers part, oh and I am a reseller for etrailer, so I look bad as well.1289021
