Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Roof Rack Review - 2017 Nissan Sentra

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Nissan Sentra, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero 2500 Series roof rack system. We're going to be using part numbers RRVA118B-2 for the 46-inch long aluminum black crossbars. Those are also available in silver with part number RRVA118S-2. We're also going to be using part number RRRLKVA. For the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series legs, and finally, part number DK369, for the Rhino-Rack custom fit kit. This Rhino-Rack roof rack system is going to allow you to carry roof mount accessories on your Nissan Sentra things like bike racks, cargo baskets, cargo boxes, kayak carriers and more. The crossbars are 46 inches long.

They're made out of aluminum and they have an aero style design. This is going to be a lot more aerodynamic, a lot more quiet than your traditional round or square bar design, and it's going to reduce the need for a fairing. They're going to work with your traditional clamp-on accessories, as well as your T-track mount accessories. Simply remove the locking cap, and you can trim the rubber strip around those accessories. The crossbars are held in place by four 2500 Series legs.

They feature rubber pads that mount to the roof of your Sentra, so they don't harm or scratch that finish. Each leg is held in place by the Rhino-Rack custom hooks. These are specifically designed to fit your Sentra. They, too, feature padding so they don't harm or scratch that finish. With the roof rack system in place, one feature I really like is that the legs feature locking covers. This helps protect and hide our hardware so it cannot be removed from our Sentra.

Now, we'll give you some clearance measurements. From the top of the roof to the underside of the bar is about three inches. From the top roof to the top of the bar is about 4.5 inches. Now, this roof rack system does feature a 165-pound weight capacity, so you will want to check with your Sentra's owner's manual to see if the roof can support that much weight. Now that we've gone through those features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. I've already got the front crossbar installed in the Sentra.

Per our instructions, we take a measurement from our two doors, measure over to center on each side, and that gives us our placement for our front crossbar. Let's go ahead and set up the rear.I've already got one side my crossbar ready to go. The other side installs the exact same way. Let's go ahead and set it up. We'll start by building up the Rhino-Rack leg with the fit kit. So we'll grab it. Let's go ahead and unclip the bottom. We'll take the rubber pad, and we want to install it on the bottom. Just push it in place. Now when you're installing your kit, you want to be sure you have the correct side. On the bottom of each pad there's an arrow, and there's also a number. You want to be sure that arrow is facing forward and that you have the correct number for each side. With it installed, clip it back in place, and you can find all that information found in your instructions. From there, we can take our hook, again these differ front to back, so be sure you have the correct number, which is also found on your instructions. We'll take the bolt out here. Grab our hook, put it into place, and then we're going to replace that bolt. Now, we're not going to tighten this down all the way just yet. Just leave it loosely installed. Now, we're ready to fit it onto our crossbar.Let's go ahead and remove the end cap. We'll grab our included plastic key, pull that off. Now, when we line this up, we want to be sure that we've got enough space between our T-nut here, that way, we can easily slide it on bottom. It just slides right into that bottom channel like so. Then from there, we can go ahead and replace that end cap and lock it up. Now, we can turn the whole thing over. What we need to do next is position our leg in the correct spot on the bottom of our crossbar. Now, in your kit, you're going to get a plastic measurement strip that's going to help you when placing your leg, and the measurement is found in the instructions. For demonstration purposes, we're not going to be using that. We're just going to be using our little tape measure here. Once you've got the correct setting, we can take our included tool and tighten that down. Now, we don't need to over-tighten. Just tighten it up enough to where that lock washer is flattened out. With everything set up correctly, we can go ahead and set it in place on the roof of our Sentra. We're going to set it in the roundabout area. Now we need to make sure we have it set up correctly on our roof. Now, that measurement can be located in your instructions, and we need to measure center on center.Once we've got set on this side, you'll want to go over to the other side and check the same thing. With the position correctly on each side, the next thing we want to do is grab our included tool, and we'll want to tighten up our bolt here and get rid of this play on each side. So tighten it up to where the hook makes contact with the bottom here. Let's go ahead and do that for both sides. Now we can begin tightening it down completely. There's a few things we need to check for. We'll need to be sure that our rubber pad here on each side is sitting correctly within the channel on top of our Sentra. So just be aware of that, as you're tightening. You'll also want to be sure that you alternate sides. So we'll give it a couple turns here. Then we'll go over to the other side and give a couple turns there. Now, in your leg kit, you're going to get a tool that looks like this. You can see how the handle has a little bend in it here. Now, this is our torquing tool. As we tighten, you'll notice how that bend is no longer bend. It is now straight. That's how we know it's properly torqued down on each side. Finally, with everything tightened down, we can close up our doors, put on our cover and lock it up.With everything installed, we're ready to load up our favorite Rhino-Rack roof mounted accessory and hit the road. That's going to complete our test fit of the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system on our 2017 Nissan Sentra.

Look how nice my crossbars look? I ordered these and paid extra for expedited shipping so that I could have them to put a luggage carrier on my roof. The legs for the crossbars never showed up and the crossbars came late as well. I ran out and got a trailer hitch basket for extra storage. Tack on an extra $[XX] in addition to the extra $$ for fast shipping and I'm $[XX] into these crossbars that I couldn't use for their intended purpose. I called early enough that the company could have overnighted the legs but they just kept blaming UPS. Very disappointed.

Lexus IS 250

This roof rack works great! At first I was skeptical about putting a rack on my IS250, but it couldn't have turned out better. Paired with the Yakima Highroad, I can easily transport my bikes around without worrying about anything coming loose while driving. The installation instructions for the legs and bars are pretty straightforward. Takes about 30-45 minutes total to install.

by:

The Rhino system works great the way it is. I'm going camping next week and took the two bars out of the closet and right onto the car. No adjustments were needed. The feet fell right into the roof line where I initially set it up. All I had to do was clamp it down. Last weekend I had the basket up there with two fully loaded RTIC coolers probably pushing 150 pounds with no problems. For this trip I have my Yakima easy load bike racks on the roof. They clamped right onto the Rhino bars and they're in a much better position for loading and unloading than my last truck.

I'm very happy with the product and not expecting anything else. Thanks for following up.

Toyota Camry

I bought this last yr to haul my kayaks on my Toyota camry. Being 5'2", getting them on top of my SUV was next to impossible for me and my daughters. Since then, I have traveled from Michigan, all the way to the west coast with two 13' ft kayaks. These racks have been absolutely perfect in every aspect. I mounted them myself, and checked them regularly to see if they needed adjusted. Not once did they loosen or move. They with stood Traveling with speed limits reaching 80 mph on I84, along with the windy weather on our cross-country trip. My car moved around from the high winds, and the racks stayed put. These racks have by far reached and surpassed every expectation I had when purchasing them. I would not recommend another. Only thing I would recommend is showing installation for both front and back bars, since the measurements are slightly different for both. As I had to figure this out my self, after watching the installation video. Thank you Rhino for providing such a high quality product.

Ram 2500

I purchased Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars with Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs (RRRLKVA) and Fit Kit (DK284) for my 2020 Honda CR-V EX Hybrid. The rack was easy to assemble and took about an hour. The only tool not supplied that you need is a sharp knife or scissors to cut the rubber strips to length. Once assembled, the installation took about 30 minutes, making sure to measure accurately for placement. I used blue painter's tape to initially mark the locations. I then placed the white marking arrows (supplied) to align with the marks on the tape. I then removed the tape, placed the racks aligned with the arrows, and tightened the clamps.

This product seems well made and engineered (I'm a retired mechanical engineer). Kudos to Rhino-Rack and to etrailer for selling it.

I used my rack to transport two Kayaks to Baxter State Park in Maine, a trip of over 3 hours, a combination of highway, rural roads and dirt roads. The rack performed well. Worth the purchase.

Love it, fast shipping, works great and looks awesome on my car!

After a year, the rack is still in very top shape, easy to remove for the winter since I use is only for Kayaks in the summer, easy reinstall. One thing that barely need to be mentioned, some the noise is created on the side tips when driving moderately *cough* *cough*, but it is to be expected since it doesnt serve for aerodynamic :

Seamless installation. The instructions were well thought out and easy to follow. A year after installation the contact points are solid as when first installed. The rack system matches the truck and gives it a great look.

This rack is a great product and has worked great for the kayaks I hauled across the country over the last year. Only things I can complain about is the extra wind noise with them on, and the lack of strap anchors. Otherwise, has worked great for me.

Choosing a system for transporting my new (to me, they're actually used) kayaks was TOUGH. I love my little 2017 Honda Fit, and I knew I would love my new kayaks when I got them. I don't want anything bad to happen to either! Also, my car is small and the kayaks are fairly large, comparatively. I've strapped a lot of things to a lot of vehicles, but this is going to be a long term relationship, so I wanted to get it right the first time.

I've been researching and reading reviews for months, but I got confirmation that the kayaks were ready for pickup, so I needed to make a decision! I ultimately pulled the trigger on the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars with the 2500 Series Legs and Custom DK Fit Kit for my naked roof car and the Rhino-Rack Nautic Stack Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs.

I placed my order on 09/15/21 at 6 PM. The estimated delivery date was 09/23/21, which made me a little sad. I really wanted to pick up my boats on Sunday, 09/19/21, but I figured I'd waited THIS long, I could probably handle waiting another week. I was very pleasantly surprised to receive an email at 8 PM the same evening notifying me that my order had shipped. AND, even better, the UPS tracking was showing delivery on 09/18/21 by 7PM! I was beyond excited, but didn't get my hopes up because shipping has been pretty hit or miss since well before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, UPS delivered my package just before noon on Saturday, which was amazing!

I got everything unpacked and reviewed to ensure that I had all I would need to assemble the system - check. Nothing missing, which is always an auspicious start. Then I started reading the instructions - UGH. This is (so far) the ONLY thing I have to complain about. I have put together furniture that had clearer instructions. I probably should have gone to Google to find a [online] video, but I powered through with the instructions provided. Since I've never put together or used a roof rack before, I didn't really know what the final outcome should look like, so that made interpreting the instructions very difficult - the pictures were not super clear, and the accompanying text did not improve the situation. Now that I know what it looks like assembled, I get it, but at the time it was rough. I estimated it took me about 2 hours to get the rack assembled and secured to my car, and towards the end my fiancé arrived and helped me to realize that the foot pads were not properly attached to the feet, which made a huge difference! The kayak carrier was much easier to install, taking maybe 15 additional minutes.

The foot pads rest in the groove on the edge of the roof, I assume over the frame of the car. There's absolutely no flex in the roof where the feet sit. The hook part of the clamp rests against the metal of the car, under the rubber seal, so I don't foresee any potential issues with the seal as a result of the rack. The doors close as normal, and the rack has no movement whatsoever once tightened down. I've now used it as a handle to pull myself up towards the roof a few times (I'm about 190 lbs), and I feel totally confident that it's not going anywhere. I now have ideas about how to use the rack to haul around the larger stuff that won't fit INSIDE my car (which isn't much - I HIGHLY recommend this car!).

So, the big question - how'd it go with the kayaks?

In short - perfection! I was slightly concerned about the boats overhanging the front or back of my car, as they're 12.5 ft long and my car is just over 13 ft long. Eeeeek! I needn't have worried. They fit like a dream, and even without bow or stern tie downs were very secure during our trip home. We took local roads instead of the highway because we didn't tie down the bow and stern, so we probably didn't go over 40 ish MPH, but I saw absolutely no lift (I can see the ends of the boats out of the front windshield). I will be using those tie downs in the future, and anticipate no issues with highway speeds under those conditions.

Obviously, only time will tell how everything holds up/works out, but at this stage, I am extremely pleased with my decision and am looking forward to many kayaking adventures to come! I only have one picture at this point, but may take a few more and add them so anyone else considering a similar setup knows what they'll be getting.

I am very pleassed with our rhino rack serieus 2500 roof rack. It is very sturdy. We also like the idea that it is removeable and very easy to take on and off. We bought 2 sets of Malone J Pro 2 Kayak Carriers from another company that were suppose to fit with the rhino rack but the bolts were too short. Just a warning if you were planning to get those to go with the rhino rack. We were able to contact Malone and they sent us longer bolts so they should fit now.

This rack has served me well during the past year. Easy to mount and great for kayak racks in the summer snd ski racks in the winter.

2018 Ram 2500

I purchased the complete 2500 Series system which included the crossbars, legs and fit kit for my 2018 Honda Fit so I could transport my kayak.. They were well packaged and their quality is quite evident. I did struggle a little following the assembly instructions but with some patience and watching a video it went well. Two items to be aware of. The front and rear leg clamps are of different lengths with the longer clamps going on the rear crossbar. The other issue was positioning the crossbars. After following the measurements for attaching the legs to the crossbars it was quite clear that the measurement for the rear crossbar was wrong. Placing the legs as instructed didn't allow the rear crossbars to be the 29 17/32 inches from the front crossbar but required me to move it back to 31 1/2 inches. There is a very faint whistle while driving around 30 to 35 mph but it's not annoying. I was so pleased with the fit and finish I went ahead and purchased the Rhino Rack S-loader to make it easier for me to lift my kayak onto the crossbars. I would definitely recommend both items.

This rack (including these legs) is the best arrangement for taking our bikes camping with our fifth wheel camper we could have imagined. After trying bike racks on the back of our camper and inside our camper, this rack finally is a safe way to transport our bikes with us. It secures the bikes using the tires and no more damage to bikes. It took a few times to figure out a way to get the bikes on the roof easily. I built a small 15" by 72" temporary platform for the front of the bed to stand on that can be easily slid under the hitch when not in use. WE LOVE THIS RACK.

Ford F-250 Super Duty

I was really looking forward to this rack as I'll be running my roof tent on it. Unfortunately it came damaged, since the damage was limited to the end caps I went ahead and mounted it.
The rack itself looks slick, comes with little measuring sticks to make sure you install it straight the first time, comes with all the tools required.
So thats about it for good stuff.
Wind noise , to give you an idea how bad it is I have this on a old f250 with a bad muffler and 33in mud tires and its still almost intolerable! It's like they put it in a wind tunnel and tuned for as much noise as possible.
I also ordered a roof bag at the same time , I wasn't expecting much from it . It's a bag with a zipper and straps. Sadly the hardware is junk and I snapped a buckle with some light tensioning.
Customer service
Initial service was as good or better than expected. Things went downhill when the damage was reported. I told the rep I was only at a US address for the next 10days and if the replacement was going to take longer than that would they ship it to Canada?
The answer was no, they won't ship it to Canada (talking about a couple pieces of plastic you could stick in the mail for $2.00). They then proceeded to slowplay the authorisation for the replacement parts and shipped them the day I told them was my last day to receive them.
So to sum it all up I am the happy owner of one of the loudest racks on the planet that looks sketchy due to the shipping damage. A roof pack that will probably end up at the dump after one extended trip.
Not likely to be a repeat customer!

This is a terrible fit on my car. The measurements they gave me for my vehicle were inaccurate. The rack itself is overpriced. It has come off my roof several times since I purchased it. Not to mention it has left several scratches in the paint on my roof. I could not be more disappointed.

Comments
Roof racks are designed to attach to vehicles using a fit kit that includes rubber pads to prevent damage to the vehicle. You will want to use the manual to install the fit kits at the measured location and also to tighten it down a little at time from each side. This helps to prevent scratches to the vehicle.

2012 Toyota Corolla

I've been using the track for 12 months to haul kayaks around on my '21 Toyota Corolla.

Installation was easy, and the tracks feel as solid as if they came installed at the factory. Plan on spending 30+/- minutes to install them.

Wind noise is minimal, and I haven't noticed a significant change in fuel consumption.

Build quality is very good.

I have recommended this rack to friends and family.

I bought this roof rack to transport two 10'6'' kayaks on top of a Ram 2500 short bed. Easy install, and the rack has been working fine. I double strap the kayaks to ensure stability. This rack permits me to carry the kayaks while pulling a 34' fifth wheel.

I picked up the RR 2500 and Aero Bar for my 2021 Honda CRV. The fit was perfect. Took less than an hour (took my time). Nice, solid product. Well built. I'm going to get the canoe-attaching kit as well. I love that the racks are easy to put on and take off, since I don't intend to leave it on all the time. The shipper (not etrailer) somehow destroyed the boxes with the feet and the keys were lost. It took a little back and forth and sending in my pictures, but I was sent the replacement keys in a couple of weeks...good, responsive customer service! I'd recommend!

etrailer.com's videos and additional customer support made the purchase of a Rhino Rack system from them for our 2010 Malibu a no brainer. The rack fit the car perfectly, and with the videos and clear instructions that came with the kit, I got it installed on the car with only one misstep. The instructions came the the measurements in centimeters and inches. I didn't have a metric tape measure, and ended up messing up converting fractions to decimal.
My Daughter is going to college 500 miles away and is moving into an unfurnished apartment and needed to pick up some small furniture that wouldn't fit in her Malibu. She purchased several items from Facebook Marketplace and was able to transport a twin bed and mattress, a medium sized desk and some dining room chairs (in several trips) with no problems.
The only thing I can think of to improve the installation would be to have the Inches measurements in decimal or to include an inexpensive metric tape.

Comments
Still rock solid after a year. Very happy with the Rack. My daughter has used it from time to time over the past year when something wont fit in her car, and shes had no problems with it at all.

I bought these for a 2016 Ram and they work and fit as they should. I do get a little wind noise but really only with the sunroof open. I used another brand for years with square crossbars and these are definitely less noisy! Good product and I would recommend.

  • Which Rhino Rack Foot Kit is Correct for 2015 Hyundai Tucson
The correct Rhino Rack fit kit for your 2015 Hyundai Tucson would actually be the part # DK201 and not the # DK171 which fits Nissan vehicles. The leg kit you'd need then is the part # RRRLKVA which is for all 4 legs. I wish we had the legs individually but that's not something we can get from Rhino Rack.

  • Can I Cut Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars To Size For My 2011 Nissan Leaf

The reason I recommend this instead is you will void the warranty of your Vortex Aerobars once you cut them to size. You can get a roof rack for your Nisan Leaf with the addition of the following items: Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - Aluminum -...
