What's up, everybody Adam here, with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Rhino-Rack roof rack system on our 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness. You do have some options when it comes to colors. So, right here is the silver option, and it's just your bare aluminum, and then the other one is just gonna have a powder coated finish and it's black. So just depending on what kinda look you're going for, you can pick between the two. I think that the black ones look the best up on top of the roof, so that's why I picked them.
But, both are gonna have all the same features. Both are gonna have this little locking cap, which, it's a very unique shape. So, you don't have to worry about someone else having this. I mean, if they have another Rhino-Rack roof rack they could do it, but we don't really see that that often. So, that's kinda cool that they do that.
Whenever you pull this out, we are gonna have some T-slots up top. So, there are some different style bars. So, some of them just have the rubber on the inside. You just push down and then slide into your accessory. This one is gonna require a little bit of trimming.
And what you wanna do is just keep that extra little piece that you cut out, so when you take that accessory off, you can fill up that gap, 'cause this is gonna help with some of that wind noise. So, notice how it has a nice aerodynamic shape to it, so it shouldn't have much wind noise at all. But, if you don't love just having this little plastic unique key, we do sell a separate little cap, that's gonna have a little metal locking core in there. So, that'll be a little bit more peace of mind if this isn't really something you're looking for. If you have the Wilderness package, you actually have a higher rated side rail.
So, this is gonna be a great option for some of those rooftop tents. You know, it's an Outback. You just gotta go way out back, in the woods somewhere. This is a great candidate for a rooftop tent if you like to go overlanding. Let's go over some measurements. So from the top of our roof to the bottom of the bar, it's gonna be about 3 1/2 inches. And then from the top of the roof to the top of the bar, it's gonna be about 4 3/4 of an inch. So overall, the height that we're gonna add to our raised side rails, is gonna be about 1 3/4. We checked, and the sunroof does not have any clearance issues, which is awesome. So you can put these bars all the way up front, and you can still open up your sunroof, no problem at all. One thing I did notice, the finish on our raised side rails is pretty much the same exact thing as our foot here on the Rhino-Rack. I like that, and it gives it a nice factory look. And, it does have really big, beefy rubber inserts, so you don't have to worry about it scratching the finish on your raised side rails. The cool thing about this, kinda like with all the other options that we have, there's the Malone AirFlow2, or the Curt, which does the same squishing action. And what's cool about that is, if you have somebody else that has raised side rails, I mean, if you don't wanna drive that day, you can pop this off in like maybe five minutes or so, and get it on their vehicle, so they can drive. And you can just sit back and relax. I like how you universal this is. It's really, really easy to install. So, let's go over the installation process with you now. First things first, let's prepare the bar. One, we wanna take our little tool, the little unique tool here, and you're gonna put this in, we're gonna unlock our cap, just like that, and pull this off. We just wanna make sure that the outside of our tower is gonna be facing the outside of the bar, and it's gonna fit into this little slot, just like that. Don't force it, in she'll go. And then once that's down, we can put our cap back on, and we can do the same thing for the other side. Now we can put this on our roof. I already have the back bar installed. The only thing we kinda wanna think about, is what accessories we're putting up on the roof. Usually they have an intended spread, so a maximum and a minimum. So just match that up with whatever you plan on putting on here. And this is a symmetrical bar, so it doesn't matter which way it goes. We'll place this down. And to tighten this down, or loosen it, we are gonna have to remove this cap. I just like keeping the cap on there, 'cause sometimes the feet get a little loose, and I just don't want it to slide off and maybe damage our roof. So we can unlock that and take it out. I'm just noticing this bottom slot, there's a little bolt. So we're gonna have a tool. And once we get it to where we want, you can start tightening this up. And the cool thing about the tool, it doesn't have like a torque setting, so it's not gonna like snap whenever we get to the proper tightness. But the cool thing about this one is, notice how there's a bend right here, so as we start to go and tighten this down, eventually it'll get so tight to where this part will completely straighten up. So as you can see, it's still curved, so we've got a couple more rotations to do. And now it's basically straight, so one more turn should do this. And we could do that same thing for the other side. Now, let's put our cap back on. So there is only one way this is gonna go on, just this curby curb part, we wanna make sure that's sticking up. Now we're done. Give it a good shake and it's nice and solid. So we're ready to load up our accessories. I'm a big Wilderness guy. I like the outdoors, but I'm really a fan of this Subaru, and I really do like the looks of the Rhino-Rack up top. Compare them to the Curt or the Malone AirFlow2, these I think look better, and they just feel like they're just higher quality. So if it we're me, and I owned a Wilderness Outback, this is definitely what's gonna be on my roof, and I'm definitely gonna have a tent on top, 'cause that's awesome. And that's pretty much it for a look at the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar roof rack system on our 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness..

Durable nylon legs let you mount Vortex Aero crossbars to your vehicle's factory elevated side rails. Custom-fit leg clamps tighten with included tool for easy installation on your rails. Pair with 2 crossbars to create a complete roof rack.Package, both items appeared used, but in good condition. The legs were not in the factory box, but just a eTrailer box. The instructions were hard to follow, even with a little help from YouTube. Just about to test drive to check the noise level. Time will tell, there is soft rubber on the legs and it may be wise to remove these when not in use, especially during Florida summers.
Rhino rack products are superior and I prefer them over Yakima or Thule.
However, I would like eTrailer to know, and to warn other customers that over the years the items I order from them always come with cosmetic damage or missing parts due to insufficient packaging.
In this case, my Vortex bars were shipped in the retail box which had opened in transit so two of the end caps escaped and are who knows where. Under a conveyor belt line in some UPS building or in one of their trucks somewhere.
This is not an issue as these end caps I intended to dispose of replacing them with the locking end caps I ordered with my bars and towers.
etrailer, I do not need resolution for this issue but your track record with packaging and shipping is sub par. Please step up your game so your customers receive complete orders.

I know that you are not looking for replacements. I hope that you will have a good experience with the rack and I will share your experience with our shipping department.
It is rather hard to give a review on each part.
Here is the review of the SX-Series Rhino-Rack.
I enjoyed the detailed shipping status.
The bars will be used with a roof tent (also from etrailer).
Climbing trip to Idaho in a few weeks.
We shall see how well this all works!
Interestingly, the upper side of one internal bar is white with my black set.
Maybe it was missed in the painting process.
etrailer has been a pleasure to work with thus far.

Well, many issues. Right off the bat, NEVER buy a 3-person tent for a Subaru Forester as it does not fit. I had to offset it to use it and though it worked, it is frowned upon. Then the tent. It sleeps fine, but if one is not somewhat fit, exiting the tent on a ladder is interesting. I am a climber so no worries, BUT is it rains overnight, then gets cold and the rails freeze, one could hurt yoursefl or more. Better ladder rails would have been better. Next, the tent is not completely sealed from bugs as there is an opening by the hinges. There are flaps, but like bugs are small and unless these spots are say duct tapped, the bugs get in. The velcro straps that cover the tent box when driving do not work unless one reverses back through which is very hard with velcro in the way. One came off and banged up my car and paint. Not fun on the interstate. Overall, I would not recommend this tent and definitely not the Rhino-Rack bars.
Using Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, Using Rhino Kayak holders. Also use a Rhino bicycle rear receiver mount. Love Rhino products.....strong, well engineered, low noise, and every part is quality... mounts, straps, etc. Photo is departure picture from last years trip to Big Bend, Texas. We probably put a couple thousand miles on these pieces of Rhino equipment on all types of roads at both Big Bend Park and Big Bend State Park... You really cannot go wrong buying Rhino products. Everything they make is well designed and will not disappoint.

Rhino products are just great products They work today like the day I bought them and they show very little agewear. You really cant go wrong with Rhino products.
I haven’t installed rack yet and everything appears to be in order.
* I wasn’t anticipating that Rhino -Rack Sports Ladder Peg (s602) be made of plastic.
Does it have the strength, durability to perform well and not get brittle in colder temps?

I wanted to let you know that the racks to do have longevity in all type of weather and are made to be taken off and on the vehicle.

I purchased the rack and pegs a year ago. I was just recently reflecting on how well the racks have worked out for me with my work. I’m glad I made the investment in them, it was worth it.
Its been one year since I installed the Rhino Rack crossbars and I have absolutely no issues. The main use is to carry my Kayaks on my 2013 Subaru Impreza utilizing Yakima JayLow kayak carriers. The only caveat is to be sure to properly cut and install the plastic channel inserts (underside) or you will experience an annoying whistling sound. If you're looking for high quality crossbars, I highly recommend these.
Great product from a great website. I like that the locks on these are not exposed, and there is no metal that oxidizes. They are as good as new after the first year
Just what I was looking for for my 2021 MB Metris Cargo Van with Raised Rails, for hauling a 14-foot SUP. I wanted as low profile as possible and the Rhino Rack SX Series Legs and Aero Crossbars looked best. Relatively easy to set up.
I am very pleased with the etrailer.com. Easy to navigate website and expedited shipping for no extra cost. I ordered and received my product in about a week, which is very reasonable for being across the country.
The product arrived in tact and with no damage. Easy to put the rack bars on my jeep. I've included pictures of the completed result. We plan on buying the attachments that will mount our bikes and when we do we will be doing so from etrailer.
I bought these for my 2013 Rav4 primarily to transport wood from home depot. Getting the bars safely installed and latched onto the cars longitudinal bars was pretty simple. The problem was the whistling. The cross-bars having a tee slot will whistle if you don't properly cut and install the 2 types of rubber/plastic tee-slot blocks provided. There is a slot block for the top, and for the bottom. The top one is easy to install since it is just one piece, but the bottom one requires 4 piece of this tee-slot block (2 outer pieces and 2 inner pieces. It took me a while to get the bottom blocks installed, quite a bit of measure, test cut, check, remeasure, cut, insert, recut yada yada.
Once I thought I had everything right, I could still hear whistling on the freeway and had to re-cut some better fitting bottom slot blocks. It turns out the more you tighten the legs, the more of the tee slot is exposed, and you need to have more of the tee-slot block. Having looked at some of the equpipment you can attach to the top of these tee-slot racks, I don't see why the bottom tee slot is even necessary.
Anyway, once installed (properly), these bars work great. I can transport wood Lol
Awesome parts. Strong grip and kudos on the rubber flares for the seal.
I purchased the Rhino legs, cross bars and J-style kaya carriers together and could not be more pleased with the combination. The system was installed in an evening and used the next day. The legs were very simple to install on the cross bars and then mount on the vehicle.
I spent a week reading reviews and forums to find the right one for my 2019 Jeep Cherokee that I just bought a few weeks ago. I just have to overthink everything but it paid off. I just received them this morning and installed them myself! First time for everything! It was really easy. The only part that was frustrating was the very first part... sliding the rubber pieces into the crossbars. They would not slide very well so I ended up using a bit of oil to make them slide better. Other than that, installation was easy and quick. I LOVE the looks of them. Very gorgeous!!! Thank you so much!! Very happy with the end result!!
These feet worked like a charm! We were able to use these to install the Rhino Pioneer Rack onto our existing factory rack (2007 Toyota Land Cruiser). Adam at etrailer.com was awesome!
This rating is not for the product and solely on the practices of ETrailer. ETrailer erred and did not ship this product when they confirmed and when called to check the status charged me an additional $xx plus for overnight shipping in order that I have the product in time for our trip. 2 of the 3 parts of this order did arrive on time and in good shape, but the fact that Etrailer charged me additional for their shipping error does not sit well with me at all and I would never recommend the company to friends.

I am sorry to hear that your items did not arrive on the day that you had paid for. I see that our customer service department is currently working on getting some compensation figured out for you.
Easy to install on the Bronco Sport factory roof rails allowing for a very low install height for the Pioneer platform!
Sturdy product and easy to install.
It was delivered in a timely fashion. Going to etrailer was 10 times easier and faster than going to the brick and mortar dealerships here in Alaska
Nice, solid rack. It went together very easily. It will support my canoe and my rod rack fits well on it. It’s very light weight and the directions were spot on. There is also videos to help make installation easy.
I would have given 5 stars except that upon delivery the boxes with the cross bars in them both had open ends and the bars were sliding out. Also the box containing the leg supports had a huge hole punched in the top. So I had to quickly do an inventory to make sure all the bits and pieces were still present and to check for any damage. Fortunately all was good, but I honestly don’t know how. I was lucky. Your shipping department needs a do better slip in the way they package things together. Otherwise great price, and Rhino-Rack I already knew was a highly rated product.
Great product except it scratches the drip channel on the roof. Would recommend.
Shipped according to schedule, easy to install, and looks great. Can’t wait to put it to use. Thanks!
They fit perfectly and as described, had no issues whatsoever. Whole rack system installed easily in an hour with all needed tools being supplied. They also work well with the kayak racks I had purchased prior to these.
They work great..
I did a lot of research on this product and others like it and even went to far as to buy a set from a different maker off of [online vendor] because it was far more inexpensive. They (Legs\Crossbar Combo)didn't work for my accessory (Thule Upride), so back the went.
I took the plunge and bought these paired with the Vortex Aero Crossbars and I cannot be more pleased. Rock solid, and they have to be when you have a $3500 bike on top of your vehicle. They don't make much noise and are very easy to install\uninstall as needed. I've used them solidly for a year now without a single issue!
I wholeheartedly recommend these legs and crossbars to anyone on the market.
It was easy to install. The whistles are loud when I go around 30-50 mph eventhough i put the rubber and measuring strips up and down; fortunately, I still have the measuring strips left so i put it on the holes and the whistling was gone. Great product!

I really like how the racks are holding up. I kept them on the Jeep, but it is garage kept. I like them much better than my Thule racks. I havent put a kayak up there yet.
