Double-Eye Spring

Part NumberABCD

Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Excellent service and selection. Parts arrived one day EARLY and worked perfectly.

I pull a toy-hauler 5th wheel trailer between Alaska and the lower 48 through Canada twice a year. Much of the road is rough and caused me to break a leaf spring every trip. Since installing a shock absorber system and upgrading from 5-leaf to 6-leaf springs, I have so far eliminated suspension damages on the route.

Im still very pleased with this suspension system. I will add it to any trailer I acquire.

Jayco, the manufacturer of our 4 year old RV, grossly undersized the axle leaf springs when it was built. The GVWR rating tag on the RV said it was good for 9750# but Jayco only put springs rated for a total of 8000#. Consequently the springs failed after 4 years and less than 5000 miles use. (See picture of old/new springs). I upsized the new springs to a total of 12000# and once again the RV sits as high, maybe 1/2 inch higher than when it was new. site was easy and helpful to use. The springs and u-bolts arrived in just a few days and were well packaged. Thanks to etrailer we are safely on the road again.

The leaf springs fit my trailer perfectly now I feel like I have the right load capacity for my trailer

Perfect fit, a perfect match to the axles I had bought. Well made components and has shown to be the correct sizing for my application.

I had rusted old bolts and leaf springs, these were great replacements. No issues look great work well and fast shipping.
added 3 inches of lift upgrading the springs.

After talking with etrailer rep. I was sent the wrong size. I sent them back and bought new one's locally.

It went together fine, lifted the trailer bed a good 5-6 inches off the tires and looks strong; time will tell. First picture is BEFORE, 2nd pic is AFTER

Good quality and good fit. They went right together and after a year have not required any retorque. No rust either.

First off I was in need of parts ASAP so I searched the web and found this site, that being said I made a purchase of greasable bolts, spring plates and new upgraded springs, 3 days later I received all
Of my parts and installed without any problems. The new springs gave my trailer a much needed lift of about 4-5 inches and improved the ride by 100%. All in all this was a great experience and very good products. I will continue to purchase from them and highly recommend them to everyone who has a trailer!

Excellent service, they responded to my queries on the same day , delivery on time ..what else can you ask for?

My wife ordered me something for my birthday off [online] (small whatever). I ordered these springs a week later and they still got here first. Very fast shipping.

Etrailer made my purchasing and acquiring the parts I needed very easy. Customer service was exceptional!

The service from etrailer is top notch. Great service and employees. I would recommend them for any trailer parts needed.

Great upgrade on my 5th wheel from 4 le af....

Great customer service

Decent price ,good fit

These leaf springs were about the half the price as all the ones that I saw, and they shipped in two days! Got them installed and they look great !

This order was shipped out within 6 hours of my placing the order over the phone. Now that is great service! The 6-leaf spring was an exact replacement for the ones on my 40 foot Big Horn 5th Wheel, except they are better made and seem stronger. I am definitely satisfied with the quality of material I am getting from

Its been a year now and Ive logged over 5K miles on the replacement springs and they are holding up well. Trailer is straight and true and I havent noticed any compression. Great product!

I had great costumer service. When one of the springs I ordered was lost, Noah stepped up and expedited a replacement. Very professional all the way.

All arrived on the date committed and was complete.

Brandy was super helpful. My package came in two days! I didn’t realize Etrailer was a one stop shop. Will definitely be buying from you guys again, thanks!

I wanted to put larger tires on my 5th wheel trailer. It had 225/75/15 load range D from the factory. I tried first by ordering HWT- Series S5 16x61/2-6 part # AM 22658 HWT B wheels, and 4 Sailun S637 -ST 235/80/80R /16 load range 129 tires. Found I didn’t have enough room for them to fit. So I ordered 4 new springs Item SP - 053275 six leaf springs and a larger equalizer item TREQ-310. All the parts except the tires we’re purchased from My trailer already had the axles flipped and the longest hangers installed. So getting the new springs and equalizers did the job I now have the space to use tires that will allow me to actually put a near full fresh water tank for dry camping. I am very careful about what I put in my trailer and weigh it frequently and use a safety factor in loading! etrailer was very helpful in suggesting items, and were fast in shipping . I would use them again!

I had these springs on order for almost 7 months from another vendor with no delivery date in sight. So i searched and found them on etrailer website for less money and they were in stock and delivered to me within a weeks time.

Awesome pricing and service. Will definitely order from them again.

  • How to Determine Correct Double-Eye Leaf Spring Replacement for 6,000 lb Axle
I can tell you how to determine the correct leaf spring replacement, though those numbers don't have anything to do with size. They are probably a serial number or some other type of manufacturer ID but nothing of consequence. Instead, the best way to determine if a double-eye spring will fit is by measuring the length from the center of the spring eye to the end of the spring, as you can see in the accompanying diagram (the best way to get an accurate length of a leaf spring is with the...

  • Recommended Leaf Springs For Triple Axle Boat Trailer W/ 5200lb axles
You are correct that the leaf springs on your triple axle boat trailer have more than likely flattened out and have gotten longer since they are 18 years old. For a replacement I recommend the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # SP-053275 which measure 26" center of spring eye to center of spring eye and will work perfectly as a replacement. A 25-1/4" spring may work, but it is unlikely that your current springs stretched 2" over time. I included a video of...

  • Leaf Spring Replacement for # SP-053275
If you got 15 years of regular use out of the # SP-053275 I'd say you did good in that regard as trailer suspension doesn't typically last forever. It's highly recommended to replace leaf springs on trailer in pairs for the left and right side of the trailer but if you can only do one spring right now and you will be using the trailer it is safer to fix the one spring instead of using the trailer with a broken one. These springs are a solid option and I don't think going to a slipper...

I have a great set of leaf springs for you that will fit your spacing requirements and be a little heavier for your 4,400 lbs axle. I recommend the Universal Group 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring item # SP-053275. These leaf springs are rated for 6,000 lbs trailer axles. The extra leaves will give you more flexibility to absorb road shock than your current four leaf, leaf springs. These sell individually. I have attached a review video.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Recommendation for 2009 Forest River Cardinal
Typically as springs wear out they stretch or get longer as they flatten. So when picking out a replacement spring normally you go with one slightly shorter than what you measure but most importantly the correct capacity based on the axle. The temptation is to go with a higher rated spring than needed but this will just give you a harsher ride than ideal as the spring will move less. So the best solution is the leaf spring part # SP-053275 which is a 6k spring that is 26 inches long. This...

From what I can find, for 5200 lb axles you will want 29.5 inches between the hangers center to center and 33.25 inches axle center to center for double eye springs in most cases. Your equalizers and shackle straps will take up some of that measurement difference between your springs.

The clip you are referring to on the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # SP-053275, and other leaf springs, is called a Rebound Clip. This is meant to keep the leaf springs from breaking on hard impact. It is typically mounted about a 1/2" from the end of the shortest leaf. The leaf spring is typically mounted in a way that the clip/band is forward of the axle, however, it does not make a big difference either way so I wouldn't worry about that too much.
