Video Transcript for Brophy Camper Hold Downs Review

Today we'll be reviewing and showing you how the Brophy sliding camper hold downs, part number HSSF, will fit on most trucks. These hold downs will fit on any truck that has a downward lip on the underside of the bed rail. But keep in mind, if you have a bed liner, you may need to cut it out to fit properly. We'll begin our installation by first threading on the 7/16 hex nut onto our T bar. We'll then thread the T bar into the threaded hole on the tie down plate. We'll then take the included neoprene pads, which we'll place on the underside of the tie down plate as well as the back of the T bar.

We'll then place the tie down plate onto the bed rail as far forward as possible, making sure that there is still a lip on the underside of the bed rail. Next, we'll need to make sure that the 90-degree angle on the tie down plate is flush with the 90-degree angle on the bed rail. To do this, we'll loosen up the T bar until the bracket can rest flush on the bed rail. We'll then turn the hex nut tightly up against the backside of the black plate. We'll then tighten it down with a wrench.

We'll now take the other clamping plate and put it on the backside of the tie down plate underneath the bed rail. We'll need to make sure that the two holes on the clamping plate and the two holes on the tie down plate match up. You'll also notice the angled edge on the clamping plate will need to be up against the horizontal drop down of the bed rail. We'll place this up under the bed rail, thread in the bolts, and thread in our nuts on the other side. We'll then use a wrench to further secure them and tighten them down.

You can connect your camper with the tie down hardware package, part number TDHP, by simply taking the S hook, which the small part of the S hook should be into the chain. We'll then take the other end of the chain and set it onto the hook of the turn buckle. We'll then take the larger opening of the S hook and insert it into the hole of the tie down plate. As you can see, there are two adjusting hooks which will either loosen or tighten your load against your camper, giving you supreme hold. These hold downs are made of a 3/8" x 3" steel, and coated with a black powder coated finish to hold up against the elements.

They are highly adjustable and have more leverage than stake pocket hold downs because of the longer mounting brackets that secure to the base of the truck bed, as opposed to the inside of the stake pocket. The kit comes with four hold downs, and the hardware and pads you'll need to install them. That will complete today's review of the Brophy sliding camper hold downs, part number HSSF.

Got here early in the a.m. and on time before heading on a 2 hours trip. Easy install. I hoped the chains would be longer, I had to use 2 longer chains because of the position of the eye bolts on the camper.

Comments
Havent used the tie downs in a year. Hoping to use them again for a camping trip in March. Great product.

Brophy tie downs were just what I needed. Shipment was delayed twice once it left your facility.

by:

A must have for your camper if you are using the Brophy style tie downs.

by:

Easy install, quality hardware, great fit for my camper/ 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab truck combo. I would recommend this company and it’s quality products . Safety is a big concern and these tie downs are as safe as can be.

by:

Fantastic...........great quality.........great price.......great product........Thank YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by:

Works perfect for what I needed

by:

Fit and finish. We're perfect.

by:

Great selection, easy to shop.
One issue
I noticed, is the quality of the screws used to mount the hardware.
It seems that with all the attention given to the actual hardware itself, it only makes sense to have better quality screws, etc.
They were cheap, not of high grade metal, and I had to go replace them.
I'd gladly pay a bit more, to get screws that are as good quality as the hardware.
All in all, though, I was satisfied...even if I had to source the screws myself at a Lowes store near me.

by:

Worked perfectly holds down my six pac camper just fine

by:

by:

Works great, was easy to find and navigate on the site and exactly what we needed to tie our camper safely to the truck... And thanks for the expedient processing of our order to it's arrival was very much appreciated... Thank you!

Comments
Working Great! So far securing the camper to our truck couldn’t be easier. I have confidence using these tie downs and it keeps our camper in the truck bed securely. Also we drive safe and take corners at safe speed and always mindful that the camper is there.

Should come with longer links of chain. Overall works well!

by:

Heavy duty for holding my camper on my truck.

by:

Good description, affordable, well packaged, quick delivery, great product. Would highly recommend both the tie downs and etrailer.

by:

Great customer service....Promp delivery...
I
was very satisfied dealing with etrailer.

by:

Good quality no problems

by:

The products purchased seemed to be of good quality, but I have not used any of the items yet. The problem is the box was partially broken open because it was not sealed properly! The tie downs were not protected from damage with much inside Packaging around the products! Therefore the paint was scuffed up badly !

The tie-down hardware package worked great. Nice and flexible, for matching the camper's layout. I might replace the S-hooks with threaded chain repair links, but for now, teh kit was complete and worked fine.

Comments
The Tie-down brackets and tie-down hardware kit are working fine. They are a good, inexpensive solution for securing my camper to my pick-up.I appreciate the follow-up. You folks are great to work with.

They do what I bought them for- hold the camper down.

by:

I paid extra money to have these turnbuckles delivered to me so I could go on a camping trip with my family. They came late and we had to cancel our camping trip. I tried calling customer service twice and no one answered.

Comments
Thank you for letting us know. Our customer service team should be reaching out to you in the near future.

etrailer shipped quickly as usual. Packaging from Brophy could have been better reinforced as the box was demolished when I recv'd it (not unusual anymore). Everything was there though, so all is good. etrailer is a great business with excellent customer service.

I went out to the warehouse and pulled a tie down hardware package, # TDHP, to take some measurements. With the hooks on the turnbuckle portion out from the inside of 1 hook to the inside of the other hook is 12 inches. When you attach a chain and an S hook, from the inside of a hook to the inside of the S hook measures 19-3/4 inches. The minimum length between the hooks when they are all the way in is 7-5/8 inches. I have included a picture that shows the measurements for you. The hardware...

  • Is a Jam Nut Needed for the Brophy Basic Turnbuckles
The Brophy Basic Turnbuckles part # TDHP don't require a jam nut as there is no way for the hooks to turn loose while they are attached to the tie-down points. Once tensioned, the body would not be able to turn either without force. The thread diameter of the rod is 3/8" if you want to use a jam nut of your own but it's not needed.

  • Will Hold Downs # HSSF Fit a 1971 GMC C/K, Can they be Installed Without Removing the Camper
The Camper Hold Downs, # HSSF, will fit your 1971 GMC C/K as long as you do not have a slide-in bed liner. The camper will have to be out of the truck for installation unless you have enough room between the camper and the sides of the bed in which to work. If this is the case, the camper might be too small for the truck and the Hold Downs might not work as they are designed to work with a camper that is a correct fit for your truck.
