Video Transcript for Brophy Camper Hold Downs Review

Today we'll be reviewing and showing you how the Brophy sliding camper hold downs, part number HSSF, will fit on most trucks. These hold downs will fit on any truck that has a downward lip on the underside of the bed rail. But keep in mind, if you have a bed liner, you may need to cut it out to fit properly. We'll begin our installation by first threading on the 7/16 hex nut onto our T bar. We'll then thread the T bar into the threaded hole on the tie down plate. We'll then take the included neoprene pads, which we'll place on the underside of the tie down plate as well as the back of the T bar.

We'll then place the tie down plate onto the bed rail as far forward as possible, making sure that there is still a lip on the underside of the bed rail. Next, we'll need to make sure that the 90-degree angle on the tie down plate is flush with the 90-degree angle on the bed rail. To do this, we'll loosen up the T bar until the bracket can rest flush on the bed rail. We'll then turn the hex nut tightly up against the backside of the black plate. We'll then tighten it down with a wrench.

We'll now take the other clamping plate and put it on the backside of the tie down plate underneath the bed rail. We'll need to make sure that the two holes on the clamping plate and the two holes on the tie down plate match up. You'll also notice the angled edge on the clamping plate will need to be up against the horizontal drop down of the bed rail. We'll place this up under the bed rail, thread in the bolts, and thread in our nuts on the other side. We'll then use a wrench to further secure them and tighten them down.

You can connect your camper with the tie down hardware package, part number TDHP, by simply taking the S hook, which the small part of the S hook should be into the chain. We'll then take the other end of the chain and set it onto the hook of the turn buckle. We'll then take the larger opening of the S hook and insert it into the hole of the tie down plate. As you can see, there are two adjusting hooks which will either loosen or tighten your load against your camper, giving you supreme hold. These hold downs are made of a 3/8" x 3" steel, and coated with a black powder coated finish to hold up against the elements.

They are highly adjustable and have more leverage than stake pocket hold downs because of the longer mounting brackets that secure to the base of the truck bed, as opposed to the inside of the stake pocket. The kit comes with four hold downs, and the hardware and pads you'll need to install them. That will complete today's review of the Brophy sliding camper hold downs, part number HSSF.

I paid extra money to have these turnbuckles delivered to me so I could go on a camping trip with my family. They came late and we had to cancel our camping trip. I tried calling customer service twice and no one answered.

Got here early in the a.m. and on time before heading on a 2 hours trip. Easy install. I hoped the chains would be longer, I had to use 2 longer chains because of the position of the eye bolts on the camper.

Works great, was easy to find and navigate on the site and exactly what we needed to tie our camper safely to the truck... And thanks for the expedient processing of our order to it's arrival was very much appreciated... Thank you!

The products purchased seemed to be of good quality, but I have not used any of the items yet. The problem is the box was partially broken open because it was not sealed properly! The tie downs were not protected from damage with much inside Packaging around the products! Therefore the paint was scuffed up badly !

Easy install, quality hardware, great fit for my camper/ 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab truck combo. I would recommend this company and it’s quality products . Safety is a big concern and these tie downs are as safe as can be.

Work just fine, didn't need the chains as the pick up camper sits close to the bed tie downs, just the adjusters and s-hooks are used.

by:

I bought this set originally to buy a used camper from out of town and get it home. My plan was to buy something more permanent like Happijac. Once I put these on though, I decided they were plenty strong and would most likely work permanently so I'm going to run with that for a few months and see how they work. I am using spring loaded turnbuckles instead of these though. They were easy to install and work with the factory bedliner that stops below the bed lip, no drilling is also a bonus. My camper is a Hallmark popup 8ft long and weighs just under 1800 lbs.

- TDHP
by:

Overall, very simple and easy to install the Brophy tie downs. The hardware was honestly garbage.. weak grade that undoubtedly would not hold up to this weight and movement. Used heavy duty bolts to secure it to bed rails and stake pocket. So far, 200 miles driven in snow without much movement, but a bit worried about the longevity of the tie downs. This camper will stay permanently in the bed of the truck, so I will throw in some through bolts into the bed of the truck (peace of mind). Turn buckles seem to be good (other than a factory snag that sliced me open). So far happy with the product, could have been made a bit better for an extra cost; I definitely would have paid more for a two sided stake pocket bolt through. With only one tab for mounting to top side of bed rails this seems excessively weak.. do you see the gap in the stake pocket? It was seated when drilling and lagging it down. Started to turn under pressure.

by:

Just what I needed for my slide in pop-up .

- TDHP
by:

THE INSTALL WAS EASY EASY AND THE TIE DOWNS PREFORMED GREAT ON FIRST USE. I PURCHASED A NEW TRUCK CAMPER ABOUT 300 MILES FROM HOME. THE DEALER MADE ME SIGN A WAIVER BECAUSE I DID NOT PURCHASE THEIR 800 DOLLAR TIE DOWNS. NO PROBLEM. LOADED THE CAMPER AND TOOK OFF. RAN ABOUT 72 MPH, 4.5 HOURS LATER I ARRIVED HOME WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.

I have put 6,000 miles on this system in one year - easy to set up, adjust and monitor.

Awesome Quality product thak you brophy and etrailor!

- TDHP
by:

Have not tried them yet but noticed the turn buckles have quite rough edges and 1 still had a sharp casting slag piece still on the hook. I cut it off and ground it down smooth. The other issue I see is the female threads in the turn buckle seem quite loose on the male hook thread this may not cause any issues but does weaken the holding ability of the turn buckle. will probably upgrade in the future.

- TDHP
by:

Worked for what i needed them for. Larger turnbuckles with more travel make for easier adjusting but if you have things lined up right these work great.

- TDHP
by:

By all means, consider these turnbuckles if you are spanning a space between 7 5/8" and 19 3/4" from tie-down eye to the bracket on a small to medium camper. Simple, tough, adjustable, good quality. I suppose that the spring-loaded models may be better for some applications, but the idea of much springing going on back there is not too appealing to me!

- TDHP
by:

The work as expected. They are what they describe nothing fancy. They just work

- TDHP
by:

I found that the chains were too short and too light weight for the job. I had to replace them before I could haul the camper.

Comments
I am very satisfied with them after a year of use and several thousand miles of driving with the camper on. They do exactly as advertised. Thank you very much.

  • Can the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs Be Used On a Ford F-150 with Aluminum Bed
We have spoken with Brophy in the past and for a Ford F-150 with aluminum body such as your 2017 model they recommend using the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs part # HSSF. There won't be any issues with these tie downs and an aluminum bed so long as you are not exceeding other figures such as payload capacity etc. In order to secure the truck bed camper to these tie-downs you will also need the Brophy Basic Turnbuckles w/ Hardware for Camper Tie-Downs part # TDHP. We do have camper tie-downs that will fit on your 2019 Ram 2500 but since you have the running boards none of the TorkLift Tie-Downs will fit. You could use parts # TLD2140 and # TLD3113 if you removed the running boards (or steps) but since I doubt that's something you want to do we need to look into alternatives. One of the most popular options on our site is the Brophy Stake Pocket Mounted Camper Tie Downs # TDSF which you would use with the Turnbuckles # TDHP. These drop into your...
