An example of sag on a truck's rear axle under a heavy load. The Timbren Suspension Enhancement System levels the vehicle.

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in the cargo area or by pulling a trailer, you will often see the rear sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the truck's weight, as well. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system has a custom-fit bracket that will be bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the truck level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to the truck. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Compared to the Competition

Timbren's suspension enhancement systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

2022 Ram 2500

I think I will be very happy with the ride when I tow our fifth wheel, it definitely needed the extra support especially on rough roads.I chose not to use the spacers because I like the softer ride when the truck is unloaded.

by:
2020 Ram 2500

Ok, the drivers side was very easy to install. Maybe 15 minutes. The passengers side was another story, the rear bolt was very difficult to get at and took a great deal of time and creativity to get the bolt tight do to no room to turn the wench.
That being said it did improved the ride a great deal with no load, I drive country roads that are very rough , it completely stoped the wheel hop and provide a much better ride.
I would recommend installing these I’m glad I did! I would give this 5 stars if it were not for the passenger installation.

by:

I bought these for a 2020 Ram 2500 because they had great reviews here and at a lot of other places around the internet. They do not fit correctly. On the passenger side, they are almost touching the frame with no load in the bed or on the hitch. The ride is absolutely terrible, very rough and painful. The ONLY time it's tolerable is with my 3000 pound camper in the bed of the truck. I would have returned these, but I waited a few months to install them, so it was too late by the time I realized how bad they were for my application. If you have a truck that is always loaded with a lot of weight, this would be awesome. Otherwise, spend the extra money and get air bags. I will be installing air bags and throwing these in the trash.

Comments
I am sorry to hear that you are not happy with the system. Before you replace them or throw them away, I will have the manufacturer reach out to you.

I've had these for a year now. They've made a huge difference when towing my 5th Wheel Travel Trailer with my RAM 2500 - the pin weight is less than 1500lbs, and total weight is about 12000lbs, however, in strong winds there was a fair bit of sway. This product took the sway out completely. I'd recommend it to anyone with the same problem, especially as a first step before spending excessively on other more expensive solutions that may not be necessary.

by:

The ride is a little rougher but it works well the fifth wheel toes better and I have more control thank you for your service was excellent

by:

It does help a lot with squat. only issue I have is the clearance between the timbren and my axle was not as described. Its much closer so makes for a rougher ride when not loaded. Could be because of my leveling kit.

by:

Love the design and simplicity of the product. Unfortunaly one of nuts that is welded to the inside of the bracket was just floating around in the box when I opened it up. It didnt look like anyone had tampered with it, maybe a quality control issue as it was a little rusty because of some poor welds. Im on a time crunch so I ended up making it work but definetly bummed I recieved a sub par $xxx product.

Using these on my Ram 2500 with a 5th wheel. Easy install and I have clearance when unloaded and when the the trailer is attached I can see the gap is closed. You can feel the difference when going over bumps and dips.

2015 Ram 2500

Excellent product! Went on in less than 10 minutes with a 15/16" wrench. Leveled the truck out under load and significantly reduced roll. Awesome bang for the buck. And etrailer service was spot on, as usual.

Comments
I still think these are an excellent alternative to bags and very cost effective. My only complaint is that on my 15 Ram 2500 I have to switch out the extra spacers when I’m not towing heavy. The axle and Timbren spacers make contact when unloaded and causes a harsh ride. The good news is that the extra spacers go in and out in minutes I don’t tow heavy very often. With the spacers in I am able to pull a 43’ toy hauler with little roll and excess bounce, an the truck sits fairly level

Effective product but needs a little re-engineering to make the install easier. After much research regards a cost effective towing setup improvement product for my 2019 Ram 2500 (6.4 Hemi), which included input from a etrailer advisor, I chose to purchase the Timbren TDR2500D product. This is to improve the towing capability when pulling my Imagine 2500RL travel trailer (approx 29 ft, 581 lb tongue weight, 7500 lb gross weight). The product arrived on the date they said it would and removal of stock bump stops and install of the Timbren system was mostly uneventful. Specifically, and the reason for the 4 star, is that the passenger side install was a challenge due to the location of the upper track bar bracket being very close to the rear bolt location. Though this is the "slotted" hole and you can tighten the bolt so the Timbren mount will just barely slide in and therefore not require much tightening, a socket or normal wrench will not fit in the space. Fortunately, I had the proper size ratchet wrench that I could just get on it but with only the ability to get 1 "click" of a turn! Needless to say, it took some extra time to get that side done. Note - I could actually get to the bolts for the install over the top of the tires with the ratchet wrench. Driver side took about 10 minutes to swap out while the passenger side took 20+ minutes due to track bar mount and exhaust resonator locations limiting access. Timbren might want to look into this. In that I have a leveling get on my truck which includes a 1 inch rear coil spacer, the Timbren with the 1 inch spacer installed was a perfect fit, giving me an approximate gap of 1 inch (desired) from the bottom of the rubber shock to the axle pad. It rides very well with no load and greatly enhances the stability of the truck when towing. As usual, etrailer's service was awesome! This is just one of several products I have purchase from them in the past few months as we get ready to hit the road.

Etrailer answers my questions and has always steered me in the right direction with excellent products.

by:

I love this option for load leveling and keeping our camper from swaying. This is the second truck I've installed these on. Super easy to install. Keeps the factory smooth ride unless you hit a big bump. When loaded, the ride is great. They take the bounciness out of the load. The only negative would be they're a little over priced for a chunk of rubber but otherwise I highly recommend these.

by:
2014 Dodge Ram Pickup

Took longer to read the instructions and clean then grease off my arm (which I got from rubbing against the lower shock mount), than it did to install. The drivers side is SIMPLE, the passengers side is a bit more tricky, because on the 2014 RAM 2500, the right side mount is directly ahead of the upper suspension torsion bar mount, so it's tough to get a wrench in there. I have a 15mm curved thin wrench, which worked perfectly! I've attached photos of both sides, so that you can see what I mean.

by:

They didn't mount 100% over the axle plate(even tried to reverse them). They are spongy enough to absorb lighter loads, but when my camper hitch weight was put on them they were already touching. This led to a rougher ride than the oringinal. But I would add that the load rides alot levelor than it had before.

Comments
I wanted to reach out to you in regards to your review on the Timbren suspension system. You mentioned that the springs did not mount 100 percent over the axle plate and I wanted to see if you would be able to send a picture? I do know that with a load on the truck as with the camper then it is likely that the springs will touch the frame.

Absolutely amazing product. I went from a scary drive with my slid in camper swaying very now and then, to a very safe and stable drive. Now a 6-10 hr drive with the camper pulling my boat is easy. Wish I had bought these years ago.

2022 Ram 2500

I installed the DR2500 on my new RAM 2500 Laramie. Installation is relatively easy to install, as long as you have the correct tools. Being made in Canada you will need 17mm sockets. There is no torque values. I tightened up really tight. This is my 2nd truck and installed on my 2005 Tahoe Z71 4X4. It's the way go. Stability!!

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement For 2014 Dodge Power Wagon
The suspension enhancement systems we offer are not designed to increase the towing capacity of your 2014 Dodge Power Wagon. From my research I found the maximum towing capacity for a 2500 is 20,000 lbs and for a 3500 series, the towing capacity is 30,000 lbs. A system like the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part # TDR2500D, is designed to help the vehicle when a heavier load is placed on the rear of the vehicle. It is typical to have approximately 1/2 inch of space between the bottom of the bumper and the axle. Removing the spacer will help to improve the ride quality. With the spacer gone, the distance increases to 1-1/2 inches, and will improve ride quality by giving the axle more room to move over bumps before contacting the bumper. However, by removing the spacer to improve ride quality, you will experience more sagging than if you keep the spacer installed. The # TDR2500D jounce springs...
