Video Transcript for Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps with Rubber Housings Review

Hi everyone. It's Angeline here at etra. And today we'll be taking a look at our tool, lockable strap. This comes in two sizes. You can get one in a 10 foot or you can get a set in 13 feet, long straps and they can be used to secure your items like your standup power boards, your kayaks, your canoes other items that you wanna make sure are safe. Like most cam buckle straps.

You're going to get these as a set of two. But what I actually did today is I used one tool lockable strap and then I used the tray cam buckle strap just to show how it works. So before we talk about specs and management and things like that, let's show you how to strap things down. So you're gonna get a set of two keys and your straps are going to be key to like so you really only just need one key to access both of your straps. And if you have other tool products then you know that they utilize a one key system.

So if you want to have this key to like to your other tool, your products, go ahead pick up those one key system lock course and get them all to match. So the straps themselves are really impressive in terms of their durability. So you have tool layers of an nylon strap and then they are reinforced with steel on the inside. So if you go at it with scissors you can see how this isn't even getting through the nylon. And we have these little sheers that use for cable ties.

This isn't cutting it either. So as much as I love our etra chemical straps just because they're really easy to maneuver just throw around your tech or your canoe and tighten down. You could also see how the lockable straps are better in terms of not being able to be cut through on that note though, my personal tip is that when you are strapping down your different items you might actually prefer to use a cam buckle strap like this for some of the parts and then just throw in the lockable strap for other areas because this is on the bulky side. It can be kind of tricky to wrap around things and then get that tension in while this one was so much easier to use. So there's nothing wrong with using a lockable strap but to get the most out of it you could pair it with your other Al straps.

So the buckle has this rubber housing. That just means on the outside of the buckle itself everything that's making contact with your boats, your canoe, your boards or your vehicle has rubber, or is rubber eyes. So for example, if I have it tightened down on the canoe itself, I just pull the strap. And this is touching that surface which makes me feel better about not scratching it up but also if I tighten it down where it makes contact with a vehicle, I don't have to worry about it too much either again, because of that surface. So make sure you get the right strap for you. So remember this is gonna be a multipurpose strap either are not limited to your P boards or to your kayaks. You can use this with pretty much anything. In fact, on my own vehicle, when I use the monkey bars vacuum mounted roof rack, those don't have locks. So I use the strap and I lock that around my roof rack and drop the lock inside of my vehicle. And that works out because it is a strap. Also remember that you have the 13 foot option as well. So if you have the standup paddle board you saw how it kind of fit around just enough. If I had a larger hike the 10 foot would not have been enough I would go with the 13 foot. So we have our etrailer cam buckle strap holding down our standup paddle board. And now we're going to use the tool lockable strap. So it's gonna work the exact same way but this one has a lock core for your keys. So use this strap around your standup paddleboard just like you would do with any normal handbook strap. We're gonna go around the board then around our crossbars or around our anchor points. And once you've secured it, this is gonna be the cool part. We have our keys keys go in, move into the unlocked position that allows you to open up this latch and feed the strap through the cam buckle receiver may be difficult to get it through, but once you do you can just pull it tight, like a regular cam buckle. You're gonna pull on that strap just to get all the tension there. And then with it in the unlocked position go pop that down and then turn the keys to lock the cover. And now that cover doesn't come off. So if you have excess strap, go ahead and tie that off. But now you have your lockable strap securing your standup paddle. If you find you don't have enough tension yet or if you wanna rearrange your lock good news is you can actually still tighten down on the strap itself with it in the locked position. You won't be able to undo the handbook but this helps out with making those adjustments after you've locked it in place. So my personal thoughts about these straps they're definitely something worth adding to the items you use on the daily. You're not limited to just putting these around your kayaks or your paddle boards, but you can also use this with all of your other items, like what I did with my roof rack and securing the other end in the car. So again, just make sure you get the right length and that you use it properly and make sure you lock it down properly too. And that was a look at the tool. Multipurpose lockable straps with rubber housings right here at E trailer. My name is YV Angeline, and I hope you enjoyed the journey..

The Thule straps are a great addition for strapping down my kayak. I use the Thule one-key system on my bike racks, and it is very convenient to use these straps with the same key. When I first heard about locking straps I thought it would be too easy to cut, then I discovered these have cable embedded in them, so they're very sturdy and theft resistant.

  • Replacement Straps for the Karrite Voyager Rooftop Cargo Box
I have a possible solution for you, however the exact straps for the Karrite Voyager are no longer available. I recommend replacing them with a set of Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps, part # TH832, which are locking i10' long straps that have integrated locks for added security. Thule also offers a smaller kit that is part # 10169, which you'll need two of to replace the straps.

  • Locking Thule DockGrip Kayak and SUP Carrier to Roof Rack Crossbars
The Thule DockGrip Kayak and SUP Carrier # TH895 won't work with the One-Key Lock Cylinders # TH450400 as there simply isn't a place for these to install. The cradles themselves aren't able to be locked to the crossbars unless you are mounting them to a T-track on the crossbars, in which case locking end caps on the crossbars would help protect them from theft. Another option would be to just use a cable lock like # e98891 to weave through the cradles and around the crossbars to secure...

  • Canoe Load Stops for a Yakima Jetstream Bar
You can use a set of load stops like the Rhino Rack Aero version, part # RRRLH2 to limit the canoe's travel across the bars. These handy stops include a local tie-down point so you can strap the canoe down with cam straps. There's a great locking kit available from Thule as part # TH832. When I tested the fit onto the Jetstream, it fit, but you'll want to play with the T-bolt's height and position to get a 100% tight fit against the Jetstream's flexible rubber inserts. If you transport...

  • Carrying a Kayak on a 2017 Toyota RAV4 with a Factory Roof Rack
You have a great range of options with the 2017 Toyota RAV4's factory roof rack. You'll want to ensure that the weight of the carrier plus the weight of the kayak. My research shows that your RAV4 is rated for 100 pounds on its roof, though you'll want to verify with your owner's manual the exacts of your configuration. For a carrier, I recommend the Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073. This carrier includes small side ramps to assist with loading the kayak onto the vehicle, and also folds flat...

  • Using the Erickson Over-The-Cab Ladder Rack to Transport a Canoe
The Erickson Over-The-Cab Ladder Rack, part # EM07707 is a good fit for a 146 inch canoe. You will need to verify any overhang laws or ordinances in your state to ensure that you're in compliance. Many of these are just a requirement to have a flag added to the end of the load. You'll also want to get a few cam straps to secure the canoe to the rack, and I recommend the Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps, part # TH832. These locking straps add an additional level of security and are long...

  • Recommended TracRac Ladder System On 2008 Toyota Tacoma For Two 10 Foot Kayaks
For your 2008 Toyota Tacoma, the system you are referring to and that I recommend is the T-Rac Pro2 Ladder Rack for 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma - Over-the-Cab Extension - 1,000 lbs # TH37004XT-EX. This is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and has a max load capacity of 1000 lbs. It has a crossbar length of 65 inches, so you will have no problem carrying two 10 foot kayaks on this rack. This system comes with 4 heavy-duty load stops, but for further security you can use the Tie-Down Loops...

  • Locking 2 Kayaks to a Roof Rack on a 2004 Toyota Tundra
To lock the kayaks to the vehicle I recommend a cable lock like # e98891, that you can put through something on the kayaks and then lock it to the trailer hitch safety chain loops. Another option is the Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps, # TH832. I have included a link to a video review of these straps for you to view. Make sure that you attach the straps or cable to something that cannot be removed itself, like the hitch for example.

  • Carrying a 12 Foot Stand Up Paddleboard with a 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor
I have a possible solution for you, but unfortunately at this time there aren't any roof rack fits available for the 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor. I would normally recommend a ladder rack, however there are no good fits for your planned tonneau cover addition. Since you're looking for 100% quick removal, your hands down best option is the SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier, part # 298-BX1806. This innovative rack mounts using extremely strong vacuum cups to the roof of your vehicle, completely bypassing...

  • Towing an Inflatable Boat with the Yakima Rack n Roll Trailer
The Yakima Rack and Roll, part # Y08106 is capable of towing your 14 foot inflatable boat. You will want to purchase longer 78 inch Crossbars, part # Y00411 to better accommodate your boat. You'll need some system to tie down the boat, and I recommend using a simpler cam system like the Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps, part # TH832 in order to secure the boat. A system like this helps avoid over tightening to the boat, and allows for added security by securing the 10 foot straps to...

  • SeaSucker Kayak Carrier
SeaSucker doesn't currently produce a dedicated kayak rack, however, if you have a kayak that is less than 45 pounds, you may be able to use the SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier, part # 298-BX1806 as a viable alternative. The Surfboard/SUP carrier does include the tiedowns for securing the kayak to the racks, but not a bow or stern kit. For that, I recommend using the Malone Quik-Lash, part # MPG308 attachment points and their Speed-Link system, part # MPG309. This will give you a quick...

You will have to purchase separate tie-downs for the rack, such as the Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps, part # TH832, to secure the kayak to the rack. The SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier, part # 298-BX1806 is the best potential solution, but requires a smooth, unpatterned top to work. This capacity will include your roof rack, accessory carriers, kayak and SUPs. The square bar kit for your vehicle...
