Video Transcript for Review of TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs - Front Tie-Downs - TLD2141

Today we're going to take a look at the TorkLift custom front frame-mounted camper tie-downs. These are a custom fit part, they are designed to fit the 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 trucks with the 6-1/2 foot bed without a board or a step underneath the truck bed. On a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to our website and use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this will work for your application. These tie-downs provide nice attachment points at the front of your truck for securing your bed-mounted camper to your vehicle. We do also sell the rear tie-downs to match these. They are sold separately on our website and are usually listed on this product page as a related product. With these tie-downs, you can feel dramatic improvement with your vehicle handling and stability.

It is the safest way to haul a truck camper, prevents any vehicle sway and camper movement in all directions. You can haul your truck camper confidently by attaching these tie-downs to the strongest part of your truck, which is the frame. The vehicle manufacturers do recommend that all full height slide-in camper bodies be directly attached to the vehicle frame structure. The frame-mounted design will ensure the excellent handling by securing your camper to the truck's base instead of its bed, which will better distribute the weight to keep the set-up from being too top heavy. It will help avoid any bed and bumper damage that's common with the other tie-down systems that are sold.To install these, it's a fast, no drill installation, securing your truck camper to your truck, and it also helps you maintain the value of your truck and prevent any rust and bed damage by avoiding drilling into your truck bed or bumper. These are custom fit for your vehicle.

The brackets are designed to fit tight to the truck frame so you have no loss of ground clearance, which will be perfect if you do any off-road truck camping.Once the tie-down inserts are removed, if they're not in use you can remove the inserts, and it'll give you a virtually undetectable system. In other words, the hidden design of these frame-mounted brackets will return your truck to its original look. What's nice is on the tie-down inserts, let me just take one out to show you, you move the pin, slide the insert out. If you notice, they have two holes on it. Those two holes will allow you to connect your turn buckles here and not interfere with anything on the vehicle.

So depending on your application, you can insert it into the first hole and it'll stick it out a little ways from the truck, and if you want to, you can slide it to the next hole, which will bring it a little bit closer. So depending on how your turn buckles are connected and your application, you can set it to whichever position you need. Once you get the hole lined up, then you just snap the pin in there to hold it into place. And then you're all ready to go, simple as that. Now, these are driver side and passenger side, and basically they do give you stickers that, once you install these, you can put them on here to label it so you know, because when you do take out your insert and insert it back in, you do want to make sure that the shorter side right here will always face the front of the truck. So this will be on the driver side, which I'll show you that that's going to face the front of the truck, and this will be on the passenger side, and that short side will face the front of the truck. These are steel construction with black powder coat finish for durability.

It includes everything laid out here on the table, the two rear tie-down inserts, the frame brackets, all the necessary hardware to install it, a nice set of detailed instructions. These parts are made in the USA.That should do it for the review on the TorkLift custom front frame-mounted camper tie-downs.

These are a no-drill installation on a 2020 Ram 3500, but NOT a simple task. A mounting plate must be sandwiched between the front leaf spring bolt and its mount, then torqued to a very high amount. During my attempt at installation, the spring mount expanded as I loosened the bolt (which required a high torque impact tool). I was afraid that the nut would come off the bolt before there was sufficient gap to insert the mounting plate. I did not have the access (or ability) to put things back together once that happened. In the end, I took the tie-down to a local truck shop who installed both sides in about an hour. In use, the tie-down is fairly discrete and works very well... just don't think that the installation will be as simple as the rear tie-downs.

by:

This is the 2nd set of tie-downs I had. The 1st set was for a 2000 pound truck camper on a 3/4 ton I had for 13 years. Worked fine. It lost the antitrust paint but perfectly safe. After a year of frequent traveling, including a lot of bumpy field/forest roads, the 2nd set is for a 3300 pound 8-11 NL camper on a 1 ton Ram and holds the load as safely as the first.

Better up front research for the installation instructions would have lead me to buy this at a local shop for installation. One issue with build of unit, one hole does line up which is requiring me to modify the bracket to fit, hole is off by half a hole size.
Installation has to two issues for the backyard mechanic 1) requires the loosening of the front bolt of the rear leaf spring and subsequent re-torquing to 320ftlbs something the average person does not have the capability to do 2) the install of the bolts through the leaf spring bracket requires small hands, long pliers and a lot of patience. Long story short I am forced to take my vehicle to a local shop to complete install. Rear tie down brackets were an easy install. Product looks to be stout and i am sure will function as advertised once installed completely.

by:

Easy install instructions, gave me excuse to buy impact gun as spring bolt had such high tightening requirement. Other than that pretty simple process and do exactly what intended, keep camper on truck.

by:

Perfect fit, although loosening the leaf spring bolts tough.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

Perfect fit. Very strong and secure. The leaf spring bolt on my 2017 F350 could only be loosened by a local diesel mechanic. The Ford dealership and corporate repair shops wouldn’t loosen it for me due to their liability concerns. The bolts that you need to feed through with the wire leads are a bit tricky. Be sure you have something like vise grips to clam onto the bolt once it is in place before you remove the wire. You don’t want it to drop back down into the frame. You also need to hold onto the end of the bolt while you hand tighten the nut until the star washer can bite enough to keep it from spinning. Then you can crank it down with your ratchet. All in all, the instructions were very good and complete. I was able to do the installation myself with just the one trip to get the passenger side leaf spring bolt started. I look forward to many years of camping with my unit securely tied down to my truck. Thanks!

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

I had the mountings professionally attached to the frame. The hatches can be easily removed when not in use( and I would recommend that to keep them from being stolen). Using chains and turnbuckles, I feel very comfortable with my truck camper staying where it is.. does not rock, very solid.
It’s nice to feel secure about my camper staying firmly attached.
It was worth the investment.

The torklift tie down system is a must. I’ve had them on my GMC Denali the make loading and securing my lance camper a breeze. I just ordered a new set because I recently purchased a new ram truck and the old bracket wouldn’t fit. Not sure how it could be done with out your products.

4 stars, just cause of the written instructions. Could be clearer.

Product Review: F2016, 2012 Ford F250 extended cab 8' bed
I really like the Torklift front tiedowns. I didn't feel I had the skill to fab the front tiedowns. The rear however, are rather simple. 2 1/2" 1/4" wall square pipe slips inside the factory hitch receiver. I used 27" lengths. The factory Ford hitch receiver curves towards the rear axle. Drilled and tapped thru receiver and pipe to hold it. Happy with the quick service from etrailer.com!

So far we have only received the front tie-downs. They installed without problem. I will be glad to review the other two items when they arrive. The instructions were very good.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

Jason was great to work with on getting the proper camper tie downs for my truck as it was a new truck and was a bit confused as to the proper application.
I had them installed within an hour. Even an armature bolt twister could do this!
I have used my camper a lot since putting these on my truck and will tell you these are THE MOST SECURE ANCHORS I have ever used on any of my trucks PERIOD!
You will not make a bad decision going with this product. I recommend these tie downs over any product available! I Don't normally give recommendations or endorse products. These I am truly impressed with.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

I've been using these for a year now on my F450 with a Lance 1161 11' 11" camper. The instructions were easy to follow and installation took me about an hour. This heavy camper puts a lot of weight and stress on these frame mounted tie-downs. I should mention that I teamed these up with the back frame tie down mounts and TorkLift tie downs. Not one failure or issue this past year. We have taken this down the highway, freeway, rough dirt roads and no issues. These aren't cheap but neither is my truck or the camper. In my opinion, it is well worth the expense. Not to mention the safety of my family. I highly recommend these to anyone with a truck and camper setup.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

I have a 2022 Ford F-250 super can. The frame mount tie downs went on great. You have to loosen leaf spring bolts to install brackets, passenger side bolt is 1 3/16 and drivers side is 1 1/4 so plan ahead. Need 3/4 drive brake bar too. Everything else was easy install. Nice strong mounts. I like them.
