Weigh Safe ball mount coupled to a trailer

This Weigh Safe ball mount has an easy-to-use, built-in scale that measures your trailer's tongue weight every time you tow. If the scale indicates that your tongue weight is too low or too high, you can adjust it before you head out so that you can complete your journey with the peace of mind that your setup is safe.

What is Tongue Weight?

Tongue weight (TW) refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 percent - and should not exceed 15 percent - of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-lb trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. You can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer by removing or adding cargo, or redistributing the load on the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components.

Why is Tongue Weight So Important?

Weigh Safe helps ensure proper trailer tongue weight

Simply put, too little tongue weight can cause trailer sway and too much tongue weight can cause the tow vehicle to perform poorly. You may have difficulty steering, gaining traction, or braking when driving a setup that has too much weight pushing down on the rear of the vehicle. Ultimately, towing with an improper tongue weight can cause you to lose control of your vehicle or cause your trailer to separate from the vehicle.

Built-In Tongue Weight Scale

The gauge of the Weigh Safe built-in tongue weight scale

The Weigh Safe ball mount's built-in scale signals you to adjust your load before you hit the road, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience. Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer's tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with the Weigh Safe's built-in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your ball mount. Simply hook-up your trailer to the Weigh Safe ball mount just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of your trailer will push down on the hitch ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that sits on a bed of oil. When the piston drops into the oil, the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.

Easily Adjusts to Fit Your Setup

Weigh Safe ball mount has adjustable height

Adjusting and setting up the Weigh Safe ball mount to work with your specific trailer is easy. First, unlock and pull out the dual pins and remove the platform from the shank. Next, pull out the hitch ball retaining pin from the back of the platform and insert either the 2" or 2-5/16" hitch ball. A 1-7/8" hitch ball (WSB-L - sold separately) is also available. Then reinsert the retaining pin to secure the ball to the platform. Replace the platform and slide it along the shank to the desired height. Insert the dual pins and use one of the included keys to lock the pins in place.

Weigh Safe ball mounts installed in drop and rise positions

The Weigh Safe ball mount can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your application.

Superior Aluminum and Stainless Steel Construction

From the first moment that you lay eyes on the Weigh Safe ball mount you'll see that you're getting a superior, well-made product. The Weigh Safe's shank and ball mount platform are made entirely of 6061 T6 billet aluminum, which is the same material that is used to build aircraft components, automobile frames, and freight liners. This type of aluminum is known for having superior strength while maintaining its light weight, which makes it highly desirable over hollow steel components. 6061 T6 aluminum is also rustproof, which means the Weigh Safe hitch will maintain its clean, shiny, and impressive appearance for years to come. And the hitch balls are made of solid stainless steel, offering far greater protection against rust and corrosion than other steel hitch balls that are only painted or plated on the surface.

The Weigh Safe ball mount meets VESC V-5 regulations and is SAE J684 certified. These regulatory bodies - the Vehicle Equipment Safety Commission and the Society for Automotive Engineers - create standards for the design, construction, and performance of automotive and towing accessories. Weigh Safe has had this ball mount thoroughly tested in simulation to ensure that it complies with these standards. The result is a strong, safe, sturdy product that is built to last.

Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount w/ Built-In Scale - 2-1/2" Hitch - 6" Drop, 7" Rise - 14.5K - WS6-25

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (1143 Customer Reviews)

Measure your tongue weight to determine if you can safely tow by simply coupling your trailer to this ball mount. Ball platform locks to shank. Tow up to 8,000 lbs with the 2" ball and up to 14,500 lbs with the 2-5/16" ball.

I Tow around 5-6 loads a month, this hitch worked great for about 4 months and the seal on the scale broke and filled the glass with oil. About two months after this happened the 2 5/16" ball had become a permanent part of the hitch... I've tried everything I can think of to get the pin out to switch to my 2" ball and haven't had any luck.

It is important to take the ball mount and balls out anytime when not being used and all of those moving parts should be greased often. There is only a 1 year warranty on the scale but there is a limited lifetime warranty on the ball mount, shank, and ball. Weigh Safe directly handles all warranties so I will email you their information.

Great solid high quality product just one complaint or concern. The lock and pin setup is only held in with set screws. Or at least appears to be. Hoping there is more security then that as I most of the time leave the hitch on the truck. Very easy to get a tool in there and get to those set screws. Other then that very happy with it.

Still a very awesome product. I use very regularly and have zero complaints. Works great and looks great while doing it.
Erekk P - 06/25/2016

No more guessing on tongue weight and loading different trailers
Great quality and appearance.

Works great on my two car trailers, one enclosed and the other open. Its easy to check the tongue weight when using different trailers and when Im not using the hitch, I remove it.

I wanted to get a ball mount for my new RAM3500, it uses a 2.5 inch receiver and the old truck was a 2 inch. After reviewing my options that ETrailer offered I felt the Weigh-Safe 2.5" with the 6 inch drop would best fit my needs. I switch between a 28' cargo trailer and towing my boat and the Weigh-Safe Ball Mount came with both size hitch balls that I need, plus the added benefit of measuring the tongue weight.
I was very impressed with the service from ETrailer, great website, and even more impressed with the Weigh-Safe product. The machine work on the ball mount is perfect and the weigh scale is great for someone like myself who switches between different types of trailers, knowing the tongue weight is correct.
This is an extremely well made unit and I highly recommend it.

I got this hitch for a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 Tradesman with a 2 1/2" receiver, which came with a unit to convert a 2 1/2" receiver to a 2". I had a 2" hitch that came off of a GMC 1500 that hasn't enough drop to fit this truck. This is a good looking unit, and I believe it'll do very well for what I intend to haul. I gave it 4 stars because the barrel-type lock is not covered, making it likely that it could fill up with road crud over time. If Weigh-Safe could develop a cover to protect this, and the hitch lasts a long time, they would earn the 5th star. For now, I'm happy with my purchase, but I intend to figure out a way to protect this weakness.

I bought a Weigh-Safe WS6-25 and left a review on 12/03/1917 which gave it 4 stars. I have a friend who wanted to haul his wood trailer and (large) camper, each of which had different ball sizes. As I wasn't going to use mine for a while, I loaned him my WS6-25. Long story short, he loved it. The trailers each had a different rise, and the 6" drop gave him enough so he was able to set it for each trailer. I told him about Etrailer, but he talked me into selling him mine. So, I bought another WS6-25 for myself. In my review of 12/03/1917, I gave it 4 stars because of concern that road crud would get into the lock, and expressed a desire for Weigh-Safe to address this. They must have paid attention, because they came up with a cover. I had figured out a way to make a cover, but theirs is better. So, as promised, I'm happy to say that I, and my friend, give this hitch 5 Stars.

Best product out there to get your tongue weight right. Makes a big difference how the trailer pulls in the wind and just down the road.
I put on a 150,000-180,000 miles a year pulling trailers. I could tell a difference how the trailer handle right away.

Awesome hitch that will most likely be the last hitch we buy for this truck. Has the capacity and drop/rise to meet any towing needs this truck would be called to handle. Great construction and ease of use!

Stellar, it continues to provide all our height and hitching needs. I have it stored in a cheap tool bag along with a locking pin and the 2nd ball. All features still work, locking pins slide smoothly as does hitch head on the main body. Looks good after a year of use but I attribute that to not being stored in the hitch of the truck.
Travis - 04/09/2021

Great product. Exactly what I expected. Only reason it does not get five stars is the Dual locking safety pins were slightly damaged at the ends and would not slide into Pin holes.
I had to grind down the rough ends to make it work. No big deal.

One year update Still very happy with the hitch with one exception. I live in the Northeast and after this winter I could not unlock the bal hitch pin asembly. I thought I had the wrong keys as it would not move. I discovered that the key hole and locking assembly was corroded and stuck with road salts. After some cleaning and compressed air I was able to unlock. I will now remove the hitch during the winter months if not in use.
Brian R - 04/02/2021

10 out of 10 don’t recommend. Scale is broke on both hitches purchased and the hitches slide have more play then I like in them now with normal use. Would not recommend.
Will not let me upload a pic.

I am sorry that you are not happy with this product. The ball mount has a limited lifetime warranty but unfortunately the scale gauge only has a 1-year warranty. It sounds like an anti-rattle device would help you with the noisy play: item # RM-062
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches
-- Etrailer Expert Sierra K - 10/19/2021

I really like using this hitch. I load different equipment on various flatbed trailers, and the built-in scale allows me to know hitch weight on the spot. Knowing my load added to the trailer makes adjustment of load easy.

Wanted a strong good looking hitch on my Ram 2500, that is exactly what I got!! Great service and fast delivery. Being able to adjust the height of the hitch makes for a safer tow. Love it!

I tow a 12k lb mini excavator and its towards the top of the weight limit on my trailer so I love the built in scale so I know when it's in the perfect zone. Having the proper tongue weight make it tow so much better and safer. Very satisfied with the hitch.

After a year I have used this to tow a 10,000 lb excavator many times with no issues. Highly recommend it.
Dale G - 05/23/2021

This thing is an actual piece of art. Beautiful aluminum finish with perfectly machined stainless steel 2", and 2 5/16" ball. Knowing the exact tongue weight on my truck is not only amazing its actual piece of mind when towing the multiple items I tow frequently. Easily one of the best pieces of towing equipment I've ever purchased. Highly recommend! Oh, and to top it off it stows away nicely by simply reversing it on your drop mount. Doesn't get any better than this. Takes the quess work outta wondering if your truck is overloaded or just right.

Best thing Ive owned in regards to towing. By far.
Jeff D - 09/16/2020

Very cool to know your tongue weight with just a glance. Being able to switch balls and adjust hitch height in just seconds is very nice too.

After extended use the only short coming was the lack of a 1 78” ball, so I bought one! Yes they do have one and it works as good as the others.
John P - 11/22/2020

So etrailer reminded me I have had this for a year and requested I do a review! Well, the product works great! I use it to tow my 7,500lb travel trailer and a utility trailer from time to time. I own a stock Ram 2500 with the Off-Road package, and the 6” drop works great for the travel trailer (TW 750lb) but is slightly high for the utility trailer (TW 350lb). That being said, it’s not used everyday. When not in use, I do keep it stored in my truck as to not weather it too much. Yep, still looks brand new and yes, I do wipe it down after use.
To this day, the scale does still function and is actually fairly accurate when comparing it to my Sherline Tongue scale.
Great product, happy with purchase.

I received the Ball Mount Hitch in an unbelievable amount of time after ordering. The construction and quality of this Hitch is beyond belief as to the price I paid. I own several trailer hitches from B&W and they do a good job but the fact we can know the tongue weight before travel is awesome. It is very stylish and attractive hitch mounted on your vehicle. The security factor is a plus. This could very easy prevent an accident and save lives. I am thrilled over this product and would recommend it to any person towing a trailer. I only wish the company would have offered a Locking Hitch Pin keyed same as Dual Ball Keeper Pins.

Thanks for your review and your business, John. Good news! There is a locking dual pin assembly and hitch pin set for the 180 hitch and Weigh Safe 2-ball mount which is keyed alike! It is part WS06. You may find the set here:
-- Etrailer Expert Laura E - 12/20/2016
after a year I am still extremely pleased with this Hitch and it has probably saved me some grief on the road knowing my tongue weight. Every driver who tows a loaded trailer should purchase this product. I highly recommend it and it looks great on a vehicle.
John A - 12/17/2017

My hitch arrived promptly and in excellent packaging. It makes a sharp addition on the rear of my 2015 F350. I especially like the storage feature by reversing the hitch and yet having it ready for towing in one minute. Additional advantages are the hitch doesn't become a shin/knee knocker when stored, the top makes for a nice step to reach up inside the bed and it should reduce damage I would get rear-ended. The scale takes the guess work out of where equipment is best placed on my flatbed trailer.

Havent had any problems with it. Have been asked numerous times Where did you find it?
Alan S - 03/27/2017

This is a nice ball mount. Having the built-in scale gives us much more confidence when loading whatever equipment we have onto our trailer.

I would like if they would include a locking hitch pin though. When spending this much, you would think they could throw that in. If you plan on leaving this in your vehicle, you may want to consider purchasing one. We don't plan on leaving it in our truck when not in use.

If you would like to purchase a locking pin for the # WS6-25

The adjustable ball mount is very easy to adjust and quick to change the ball size. It also looks cool with the scale!

Great product. I really like the ease of use and especially like quality of the product. It works great and looks great also.

I use it weekly and would recommend the product

Service from etrailer was great.

Great hitch, level any trailer and adjust the tongue weight without having to find a commercial scale.

I like the flexibility and quality build of the weigh-safe. The unit is not perfect, but is darn nice, well built and solid. My complaints are that the Wisconsin winters, specifically the salt have been really tough on the aluminum and the barrel lock. The aluminum is surface pitted and scarred from salt/corrosion. The barrel lock filled with salt to the point I could not get the barrel key in the lock. Then once I got the key in, it would not turn the lock so I could take the unit apart to store or change height. I let it soak, in various liquids to no avail. Finally got it sort of freed up enough to take apart. Then after a lot of aggravation, figured out that soaking it in motor oil was the way to get the barrel lock to work again. Customer support did offer to repair it, but only if I sent the complete unit in for repair. I couldn't spare it, so once I got it working again, have kept it well oiled. Salt corrosion is still an issue here in Midwest. It no longer looks cool/sleek, but is scarred and pitted aluminum. It's still a great product, just know that it won't remain looking sleek and polished in the upper Midwest when used to pull snowmobile trailers like I do.

After a year plus of fairly frequent use my opinion is pretty much the same- keep the locking mechanism well oiled and it will be fine in the salt winters. But it isnt very shiny or niceLooking any longer due to salt corrosion of the aluminum. Great product with a lot of flexibility.
Mike S - 11/19/2017

Used hitch on a few occasions & knowing the tongue weight of what we were hauling gave me confidence that the hitch could handle it!

Perfect! Studied adjustable hitches for a while to be sure that i got the right one. I did! Out of all that I looked at this one wasn't the cheapest but its worth it. A lot of guys have asked me where i got it because they were not happy with their less expensive hitch.

The hitch is working great and after being out in the weather forecast a year and a half it still looks like new. I still have people ask me about it and some people have purchased their own. I look at other peoples hitches and it reassures me that I made the right decision. If I need another hitch this will be the one!

  • Recommended Adjustable Ball Mount For 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Receivers
We do not have the Andersen 2-1/2 inch adjustable ball mount but I do have a solution for you. I recommend the Weigh Safe Ball mount. The ball mounts we offer for a 2-1/2 inch receiver opening have a weight capacity of 18,500-lbs. The great feature for these ball mounts is the built-in tongue weight scale that helps make sure you know what the tongue weight is regardless of the load. For a ball mount that has a 6 inch drop or 7 inch rise the ball mount I recommend is part # WS6-25. If...

  • Replacement Key for Weigh Safe Hitch Ball Mount
Looks like you have a Weigh Safe Hitch Ball Mount like # WS6-25. We do not have exact replacement keys, but we do have the replacement lock cores that come with a key: Locking Dual Pin Assembly # WS03. Or you can get the Locking Dual Pin Assembly and Hitch Pin Set # WS06 if you also want a hitch pin.

  • Will the Weigh Safe Replacement Hitch Ball Platform w/ Built-in Scale Fit Old Weigh Safe 180
As long as your 180 like the # LTB8-25 was manufactured after 2017 you will be able to use the Replacement Hitch Ball Platform w/ Built-in Scale for Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mounts for 2-1/2" Hitch # WS01-5. According to Weigh Safe, there was a manufacturing change at that time, so if it was made prior to 2017 the hitch ball platform will not fit and your only option would be a total replacement like the # WS6-25.

  • Aluminum Adjustable Dual Ball Mount Recommendation that Includes a 1-7/8 inch Ball
I have a similar aluminum adjustable ball mount that I can recommend for you, but there are no Weigh Safe ball mounts like the part # WS6-25 that you referenced with that size ball. Instead check out the Rapid Hitch Adjustable Ball Mount part # AM3411. This ball mount is very similar to the one that you referenced except it has a 2 inch ball and a 1-7/8 inch ball. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

  • Recommended Steel Adjustable Ball Mount for a 2-1/2
For a Steel Adjustable Ball Mount, I recommend the Curt Adjustable 2 Ball Mount for 2-1/2" hitches # C45902. This ball mount will fit your 2-1/2" hitch and has a 6" drop or 5-1/4" rise. This ball mount is made from durable heavy-duty steel and has an anti-rattle design to help reduce towing noise. You may want to consider an aluminum ball mount over steel because it is lighter and more resistant to rust. For an aluminum ball mount, I recommend the Weigh Safe Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # WS6-25....

  • Adjustable Ball Mount with a 2-1/2 Inch Shank and 2 Balls
Adjustable ball mount # DTSTBM6625 has a fixed sleeve. I have tired to take one off before and they just do not come off. It isn't welded but it is very much stuck on there making the unit solid as a rock. A similar ball mount, # WS6-25, does have an actual 2-1/2 inch shank, no sleeve, with the same 6 inch drop and 7 inch rise. It is rated for 18,500 pounds and comes with a 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch ball. It also has a built in tongue weight scale. I have linked a video review for you.

  • Locking Hitch Pin to Use with Weigh Safe Adjustable Ball Mount for 2-1/2 inch Hitch
The Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount # WS6-25 that you referenced does not come with a locking hitch pin, but you can order one separately with part # 1469DAT. I wish it could be keyed alike to the ball mount but it would require a separate key. We have not had any issues from customers with dust or dirt getting into the barrel lock core of these ball mounts.
