The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Matte black, powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant and creates a rugged look.Installed on a 2015 CR-V. It's well-made and about as unobtrusive as a hitch can be. Stickers peeled off nicely. However the estimate on the instructions of a one-hour install is WILDLY optimistic, it took me 4+ hours including a trip to the hardware store. I'm sure it would have gone faster if I had a both a lift and someone to help. The most time-consuming part was rusted bolt holes on one side above the muffler. I tried cleaning them out with a brush without success. I ended up flooding them with PB Blaster and working the bolts in and out a bit at a time and making sure the threads were clear and not stripped. Something etrailer might add to the instructions is that the flange nuts on the U-bolt are supposed to overlap. I called (on a Saturday) and talked to a nice etrailer rep who confirmed that is correct.
Received hitch a day earlier than promised. Installed on a 2016 Honda CRV. Removed rear trim and hangers for muffler. Cut trim to clear left bracket and installed both trim and hitch together. A little more difficult but it looks great! This is the second hitch I have installed from etrailer, both were great! Including photos of cutout and install.
Love the etrailer.com 2" receiver i bought. 4 hours of hell to install in my garage, but look at me now! the thing works great for my mountain bikes, and i can use it for trailer, or other hitch mount tech. perfect.
Hitch is exactly how it's described for a 2015 CRV, built great. I've never installed a hitch before and this was a breeze. Instructions were easy to understand, took me a little over an hr by myself. Highly recommended
The hitch arrived promptly, and well packaged. I have a 2013 CRV which have the nuts welded into the frame which I thought would make for a quick installation. I only cut 3 sides of the plastic underbody, and then cleaned the screw holes with the brush. Went to test fit the bolts and the muffler side nuts were totally rusted. Tried the brush some more, no luck. Tried a dental pick, no luck. Finally my son used a Dremel with a small wire brush and was able to get both muffler side nuts cleaned. I finally could hand thread all the bolts into the nuts. Once this was completed it only took 20 minutes to install the hitch. We did use the U bolt and nuts bolted to the tow hook to hold the hitch while we bolted it to the frame. It took us 2 1/2 hours, 90% was cleaning the rust from the welded nuts. I will be securing the cut flap with some aluminum stock and pop rivets, as I feel the duct tape will fail over time. Note: the two flange nuts for the tow hook are to wide and over lap, so I can't get one flush against the hitch. I plan on replacing 1 or both with grade 8 nuts, washers and lock washers. Waiting for a reply from customer service.
Everything was great until we had to screw the 7/16 nuts and we couldn’t get them to screw them flush . We tried multiple ways and still couldn’t get them flush . Please see picture attached. One sits on top of the other.
The receiver was of good quality. However, first, there were no instructions. Secondly, the frame bolts sent with the hitch were not same thread pattern as was in frame. Took a while to figure out what thread pattern was in frame. Then a trip to hardware store to buy the right bolts. 45 minute job took 6 hours.
I bought the hitch & wiring kit for a 2016 Honda CR-V. There is a u-bolt sent along with the hitch that is supposed to secure the hitch to a loop on the floorpan. The lock-nuts sent with the kit have a base of sufficient size that they overlap and interfere with each other when tightened down on the two threaded ends of the u-bolt. I had to grind the nuts down so they wouldn't overlap. Really. Stupid. Problem. There is a piece of plastic trim under the rear of the car that needs to have a hole cut in the driver's side to accommodate the hitch. The directions just say "trim." A template for the dimensions and location of the hole would have been useful.
This is my third time ordering from etrailer.com and they always provide a great experience. The hitch came exactly as expected with no issues. I watched the installation video several times and then went to work. Everything they said in the video was exactly as expected. No surprises at all. I even used some of the tips from the other reviews to make the installation even better (I didn't cut out the entire piece from the under-panel, just cut it on three sides, folded it back, attached the bolts to the frame and the folded the under-panel right back into place). The CR-V looks GREAT with the new hitch. My daughter will now be able to load her own bikes and leave the other car to us! Kudos to etrailer!
Hitch arrived a little ahead of schedule. Always appreciated. I like the rounded tubular look of this hitch. Install was easy and the video on etrailer hit the nail on the head. Took me about 90 minutes but not because it was hard, confusing or a challenge. One thing, put all of the plastic pan fasteners back in after re-install, before you mount the hitch. Well done etrailer.
High quality product and a great value. The only issue I had with it was the instructions. They are generally very good but the diagram for the body panel cutout didn't accurately show the curvature and I had to cut additional material for a good fitment. I recommend that buyers download the instructions in advance of purchase and verify the condition and usability of the welded nuts on their car to which the hitch mounts. Chasing the threads of mine took the most time and was the most trouble.
The trailer hitch receiver is a high quality hitch. We opted to have a professional do the install and it works wonderfully. We use it as an e-bike carrier hitch.
I bought this to mount on my wife's Honda CRV, following my first purchase two years ago of one for my Jeep Renegade. I was actually able to get the hitch mounted with no extra help, although it is darn heavy and awkward when you're laying on the garage floor. The directions were clear, and the template for cutting the plastic skid shield was dead-on accurate. I only give it four stars because on the of mounting bolts would simply not thread on. Since we only use them for our bike racks, it didn't cause a problem, and when my wife brought her car in for inspection the mechanic was able to get the bolt to thread. In sum, the hitch works great and is super sturdy.
#1, the product came very quickly. Was waiting on another company who kept pushing back the ship date. #2, this product is not hard to install. I have done one before so I knew the basic concept, but I love that a video of how to install is attached to my order. Will definitely order from etrailer again.
Excellent product. This is my third hitch from etrailer and they are always perfect. Easy to install and the videos give great confidence. etrailer is my automatic choice for trailer hitches, bike racks, and assorted accessories. I don't even compare anywhere else anymore because I know their prices will be the best.
Great hitch, straightforward installation. The instructions were good, as were the comments of other reviewers, especially about how to best cut the plastic underbody to allow access to install while minimizing the size of cuts. As always, slow and steady is best. If you are lucky enough to have another set of hands, that will help at key points.
This is a god hitch except: The "U" bolt snaped during installation. It was obviously over stressed when it was stamped into shape as the break was at the tangent of the radius where the top of the threads end. etrailer only support was to have me purchase a $xx kit of replacement parts. The "U" bolt is a custom size and not available thru auto parts or hardware suppliers. I had to drill and tap a piece of flat bar to place in the tow hook of my CRV and put hex heads bolts from underneath the tow bar into the flat bar U-bolt replacement along with locknuts atop the flat bar. $xx plus 1 Hr of my time for the fix. More satisfaction then overpaying for a box of parts that are not needed as they would not supply or sell me the bolt as a single item. NOTE: the bolt was not over torqued it was fractured at the top of the last thread during manufacturing and bending/ stamping 7/16 diameter rod in a u shape 1" on center is as tight a radius you can get without fracturing/ overstressing the rod when cold forming it. Makes me wonder how safe this unit is when towing if your U-bolt is fractured and you are un-aware that it is.
This is the 3rd hitch we have purchased. All have been delivered promptly and installation is straightforward along with the wiring kit. Topnotch service and products.
First, this review is based entirely on the purchase, receipt and installation experience that I had and not one my impression of it as a user (because I can't use it yet...more on that later). The purchasing experience was excellent. I had questions about the part and its compatibility with a bike rack (which was the sole reason I was buying this hitch). Asking the question was easy, and the response was almost immediate. I received the product super fast (and free shipping!). It came in sturdy, undamaged packaging which was easy to open and protected the product well. Everything was in the box including installation instructions. The installation was a bit of a difference story. I consider myself a novice but I wasn't scared to try a DIY for this install based on reading the instructions. One thing I wish I would have done differently, in hindsight, was to spend more time searching for a video on etrailer.com's site. There is a video specifically for the 2016 Honda CRV and I tried to find it but didn't try hard enough. Watching that video would have saved me quite a bit of time on the part where you decouple the muffler from the frame. The instructions suggest 60 minutes install time for a novice. I totally disagree with this. If you're a novice expect this to take significantly more time than 1 hour. Here's something that they don't tell you that you need to know if you're going to tackle this DIY and you're a novice. Your experience will depend heavily on how much damage time and the elements have done to the passenger side bolt hole threads. It's that simple. If your car has spent its life in a place that's relatively dry where it doesn't snow (like the southwest) then you'll probably have no problems. If you live in any place where it snows (like I do) and you've been driving your car around for 5+ years (like my wife has) then count on your threads being completely shot because Honda doesn't care at all about doing even the most basic thing to try and protect those bolt holes. You will not be able to simply spray them with a little bit of chemicals and clean them out with a wire brush. You'll have to use a tap and if you're a novice you'll probably a) lack the tools and b) lack the experience to do that effectively. Case in point, I was able to easily connect the driver side bolts. Why? Because the holes were protected from 5+ years of driving in Minnesota's elements by the plastic covering. The passenger side bolt holes? I had no chance. It was a mess. I could barely tell that they were even threaded. Even the one that is fully covered by the muffler was a mess. I spent hours trying to get those two bolts figured out and ultimately I gave up. It might have gone better if I had a lift (which you won't if you're a novice). So where I've left it, for now, is that I've secured the hitch with the driver side bolts and the nuts on the u-bolt in the middle and I've reconnected the muffler so that I can (I hope) safely drive my car to an auto shop to have a professional complete the installation (ie, install the last two bolts on the passenger side frame). I have no idea how much that'll end up costing me but I hope it's reasonable given that I've done most of the work already.
It fit perfectly and was easily to install, I love it. Thanks so much!
Solid product. Works well. If you can jack up the rear of your vehicle it would help installation. I put this on my wifes car for towing a small trailer, and using a bike rack that goes in the reciever hitch.
Our etrailer bike hitch has opened up a whole new world for my wife and me. Our son did the install of the under the car hitch, and the bike rack pops in and out easily enough for storage or travel with our two (even four) bikes. This purchase is a no brainer. Get one, and get out on the trails!
Great service. Spoke with a rep by the name of Justin. We had several questions and he was very helpful. We were a little worried because we live in Mexico and it could not be returned. The hitch was exactly as we needed. Also, he followed up to make sure everything was alright. I would recommend this company anytime.
Packed well, installed easily. I would do business with eTrailer again!
Order and delivery was very prompt. I have not installed yet, but assuming a universal fit for my CRv I would expect the same level of expectation with the product.
