This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Matte black, powder coated steel is durable and corrosion resistant and creates a rugged look.When installing the hitch on my 2021 Mazda CX-5, I found it easiest to remove the rear muffler assembly. Even when the muffler was lowered per the installation instructions it was impossible to fit it into place.
Removing the lightweight muffler assembly is easy (remove two 14mm-9/16" nuts and the four rubber hanging mounts). This gives you lots of space for hitch installation and tightening the four mounting bolts (the front two thread into nuts already mounted inside the frame rail).
I just installed this hitch so it's too soon to describe my experience with it. However it appears well built, has a good finish, included all necessary hardware, and etrailer.com provided fast delivery.
Instalation went pretty good by myself. Floor jack helped position the hitch and raise it into position. Jack stand helped hold the exhaust while installing. You may want to add longer zip ties to hold the electrical harness to go between the frame and the hitch. There was no other place to secure the hatness on both sides. Start to finish was about an 1 1/2 hours. Silicone spray helped with the exhaust hangers, but wete still a bit chalenging.
I had this installed by a third party. Took them 20 minutes! Overall, I am pleased with the etrailer service and hitch. It fits perfectly under my 2022 Mazda CX-5. I only intend to lug around a bike rack so it should be more than enough for that purpose.
Arrived quick and in good condition. Videos of installation show exactly what to expect. The dealership does not yet list a hitch for a 2022 Mazda CX-5. This one fits perfectly and exceeds the towing capability of the car. Very happy with the purchase.
I prefer appearance and fit of the etrailer hitch for my 2021 Toyota Highlander over the OEM type that fits through the lower bumper panel. Great fit, easy installation (great directions) and great value. I could not be more pleased!
I love the hitch. It was relatively easy to install. Your website indicates 40-50 minutes for the install. That may be true for a shop with a lift and two people to lift the place the hitch, but the average person has to crawl on their back. It took me 2 hours working by myself. I noticed after the fact that one of your customers actually took the muffler off to do the install.
As I said I love the hitch and would recommend it to any one. The problem is Mazda. I Installed another one of your hitches on my 2019 Subaru, it was much easier due to the fact that the mounting bolts went in vertically rather than horizontally.
Hitch delivered out of box and no hardware kit
Katrina B - 07/19/2022The hitch itself is very high quality. Etrailer does an amazing job with their install videos! This is the second hitch I’ve ordered from them and install was very straight forward on my new CX-5. My only complaint would be the packaging, my box was destroyed during shipping(not their fault) but was very lucky to not have any damage, I would recommend them wrapping the whole thing in some protective so if it does break through the box it would get damaged.
Research:
The website was invaluable with helping me find the correct hitch for my CX5. Further, it provided options for purchase and described the differences. Overall, the site was better than any other I visited to both learn and select a hitch for my vehicle.
Ordering:
Ordering was simple. The only tough part was figuring out if I had a 2016 or 2016.5 model - which wasn't tough.
Feedback:
Like most websites, I received confirmation of my order. The difference with this site was that it seems like my order started processing on Sunday night when they received the order.
Shipping:
Shipping was free and fast. I received the hitch on Wednesday afternoon.
Packaging:
This is a heavy item compared to what I usually order online. The box was torn and part of the hitch was sticking out a few inches. Of course I was concerned parts (Bolts) would be missing, but etrailer packages the nuts and bolts in a way that there was no way there would be any missing parts. The hitch arm didn't even have a scratch on it from sticking out of the box.
Product Inspection:
This hitch is substantial just as it should be. It is very well made.
Install video:
I highly suggest watching the video. It is a video made specifically for my vehicle or I assume yours if you buy for another vehicle. The install tips proved to be worth gold.
Installation:
I do significant work on vehicles as a diyer. The instructions say an expert can install in 20 minutes and a diyer can install in 40. It sure took me longer than 40 minutes. If I did it again, it might take me an hour or less.
Everything you need is included - except the tools of course.
I suggest following the video. It is exact. The only change I made was to more securely tape the washers on to the hitch and then cut the tape at the holes of the washers. I knew I did not want to have to take it back down and adjust a washer that moved while lifting into place.
I also stretched and tightened an adjustable strap above the muffler to hold up the hitch arms while installing. This worked great.
It will go in place. You just have to work it in above the rear "bumper".
The fit is perfect. I mean perfect!
I put the front bolts in first and then lifted the back and pulled the fishing line (with bolt attached) through the back hole. This was an ingenious approach and worked exactly as shown on the video. Of course everything you needed was included to do this.
Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts/nuts. 110 lbs was a lot more than I remember.

This is a great product. Great site for research and ordering. Great video.
I really like the way that those involved with the product are recognized on the webpage. That says a lot about the company and indicates why all of the extra touches are there.
I would certainly recommend this product and will definitely buy from etrailer again. The way I see it, if you are going to buy something pulling a lot of weight, why would you take a chance with your life and others to save a few bucks at a megasite?
Great reinforced steel hitch and perfect for my 2016 Mazda CX-5. Installation was easy, would recommend pre-setting the washers with tape on the inside. Made it much easier! Love that it came with all the nuts and bolts too.
The install video was excellent and this was straight forward. I had a CX-5 Grand Touring and the exhaust needs to be down about 8 inches.
Installation was fairly easy and straightforward the videos were a great help to watch before installation. The quality of the hitch was excellent fit and finish was perfect.
this product is super sturdy and well made. instruction video was good. it was a bit harder than anticipated to get it to clear my bumper, but installed fine in about 1 hr DIY. i was missing one conical washer and had one extra bolt in parts bag, hence 1-star demotion.
Install went fairly easy but I have a few strong recommendations. It actually took me two attempts to get this installed and hopefully others can benefit from my experience.
These tips apply to installation without a helper. I skipped all of them the first try and failed.
1) Lift rear of vehicle. I used ramps and two jack stands for added safety in case my rhino ramps collapsed.
2) Remove muffler. Use floor jack to support and a ratchet strap to hold exhaust pipe forward of muffler. This only adds about 10-20 minutes and is well worth doing.
3) use floor jack to help support hitch during install.
4) use two bungie cords or coat hangers to support front arms while installing the rear carriage bolts. Otherwise it wants to tip forward. Careful not to let the arms hang on the electrical connections.
5) you may want to skip taping the two front washers. They fell off during both attempts. And it was very easy to insert them afterwards while adding the screws. I used a trim tool to push the washer up into place and held it with the screw through the hole.
6) install during daylight hours and use a headlamp to help see. This tip may not apply to the younger guys.

Great product. I installed the hitch by myself which made it difficult to hold it up and get the bolts started but in the end I won! The installation video was extremely helpful but the trick of pre-attaching the washers with electrical tape didn't work because the tape wasn't "sticky" enough so I used strips of Gorilla tape instead. Worked like a champ!
The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver is Awesome! The instruction video is a must!! Very helpful step by step… I installed this receiver, by myself, without a lift in about an hour and a half. I used a tie strap and wood blocks to hold the exhaust after I dropped it to install my new receiver. I took my time positioning the receiver as I lifted it above the exhaust to bolt it in place. The wire for fishing the bolts into place inside the frame worked beautifully! I have an awesome hitch which has a slick design… all tucked up under the vehicle!
This was my 3rd etrailer hitch, all installed by myself (Mazda CX-9 - just lift it in and tighten; VW Golf AllTrack - that was a lot of work - remove bumper cover, cut hole to feed receiver through, etc; Mazda CX-5 - lower exhaust at rear, install). Was easy install and the matte black finish looks great. I will be back again.
Just installed an etrailer.com class III receiver hitch on my 2019 Mazda CX-5. I’m impressed with the quality of the hitch, hardware and the provided fish wires for manipulating 2 carriage bolts and square hole spacers through the frame rails. They made that part of the job trivial. Hardest part was rigging up my floor jack and jack stands to hold up the hitch while I wrestled it into place. Now on to the trailer harness install.
etrailer does an excellent job with they're instructions and videos. Very helpful - even for the seasoned "do it yourselfer" to watch a video before attempting install. It also makes it a lot easier to have a second person helping with the install. Most importantly, the hitch fits well and is very solid, but it also looks great. It sits high and most of it's structure is hidden up under the vehicle.
Great video of installation and quick shipping. They even provide an e-mail after delivery with a link for all the trailer information. Very easy to install. This is my second trailer hitch from etrailer and have nothing but good things to say. They provide good comparisons between the different compatible trailer hitch options.
This looks like a good hitch kit. It looks to be well-built. The hardware kit is complete, simple and robust. The installation instructions are clear and useful.
I have used it several times to tow a trailer and for my bike rack. It took me roughly 3 hours to install mostly because I wanted to get everything correct the first time and I was installing the wiring harness along the undercarriage to the battery. It stays neatly hidden but is there when you need it.
