What size wrench do I need for my: Curt Balls - 40038 Ball diameter: 2 Shank diameter: 1 Shank Length: 2-1/4 Wrench flats: 1-5/8 Is it 1 7/16? Do you carry those?

Curt hitch ball # 40038 has a 1 inch diameter shank. For Curt balls with 3/4 or 1 inch diameter shanks you would use wrench # C20001. The nut on that ball should use the 1-1/2 inch end of the wrench.

You could also use a large crescent wrench if you have one large enough.

Most of the 2-5/16 inch hitch balls will use either a 1-inch diameter shank or 1-1/4 inch diameter shank. The nut size on a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank, like the Tow Ready 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball, part #19286, will use a 1-7/8 inch socket. A…

You will need a 1-1/2" wrench like part #C20001 in order to install the nut on the 2" Hitch Ball part #63845. A 1-7/8" wrench would be much too large.

I went out to the warehouse and pulled Curt hitch ball #C40085. I took it out to our install bays and grabbed a socket that would fit. It takes a 1-7/8 inch socket or wrench.
