2013 Toyota Prius C Owner Looking for Best Kayak Carrier
Question:
I recently installed the Rhino-Rack RS 2500 Roof Rack on my 2013 Prius C. I am looking for kayak carrier to add on, so I can easily roof mount a 89 lbs Hobie Oasis. I am currently looking at the Saddle-Style Kayak Carriers. This looks like the best option I can find. Can you recommend this one for security and ease of use? Or is there a better option Im missing? Also- does it come with all necessary tie downs?

My personal recommendation is for the Rhino-Rack Nautic Roof Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs, # RR571. This carrier is equipped with felt pads on the rear cradles which allows one person to easily slide the kayak up and onto the roof from the rear of the vehicle. Included with this carrier are 2 tie-down straps with padded buckles, 1 set of bow/stern ropes, as well as built-in security hardware to deter theft.
Please keep in mind that your Rhino-Rack RS 2500 Roof Rack with Aero Crossbars, # RRVA106S-2, # RRRLKVA, # DK351, that you installed on your 2013 Toyota Prius C has a 110 pound capacity. With the weight of your kayak being 89 pounds and the carrier at approximately 16 pounds you will be right at maximum capacity. Carrying additional cargo other than the kayak on your roof would exceed the rated capacity and is not recommended. Exceeding the roof rack's capacity can cause damage to your roof rack as well as your vehicle.
