Do the Safety Chain U-Bolts of the Draw Tite Gooseneck Hitch Go In Front or Back of the Ball

On the rail kit installation instructions, it shows the hitch plate with safety chain u bolts toward the back for the 8339 kit which is opposite of 8339 installation instructions.???? Also the 5 inch extended ball I purchased because I have a 5.5 ft bed wont fit in hitch hole if I take other ball out. Did I order wrong hitch plate for short bed?

The safety chain u-bolts on the Draw Tite Gooseneck Hitch part # 8339-4437 that you referenced should be in front of the gooseneck ball. Or on the same side of the gooseneck ball as the cab of the truck. I checked both sets of installation instructions and couldn't find anywhere where it showed the u-bolts behind the gooseneck ball.

Also, this is a fold down style of gooseneck hitch. There are no offset balls that are compatible with this style of hitch.
