What do I have to change to upgrade from the vintage dexstar rim to standard 5 lug ?Is there such thing as changing the wheel bearing hub or a new axles?

For you to upgrade your system you will need a new axle along with the hub.

It looks like you were looking at the Dexstar Vintage Steel Wheel, part # AM20395. This is a 4 lug wheel that would be used on a 3,500 lb axle. I will make some recommendations for 3,500 lb systems for you.

I would recommend a system that includes the hubs or for a system with brakes a system that includes the hub, drums, and brakes.

One system I recommend is the Dexter Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs, part # 35545I-ST-89. This 89 inch axle comes with idler hubs that have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. It also includes the bearings, races, and seals for 13 to 17-1/2 inch wheels.

Another axle you can check out is the Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - EZ-Lube, part # e43SR. This has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and also includes the hubs, drums, electric brakes and the seals bearings and races. This axle has EZ-Lube spindles with built-in grease zerks for easy lubrication.

For a 3,500 lb axle that does not have the EZ-Lube spindles I recommend part # 35545E-ST-89. This has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern includes the brakes, hubs, drums, and bearings, races, and seals.

I have attached some links to product review videos for these axles you may want to take a look at. If you have a different capacity trailer or need a different size system just let me know and I will make some recommendations that will work for you.

I have also attached a link to the tire/wheel combos we have available with a 5 on 4-1/2 wheel bolt pattern you can check out.
