Hitch and Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Need to order hitch, wiring, etc. etc..... Factory spec shows vehicle TW350lb/GTW3500 with tow package.. etrailer shows 500lb/5000 using 8754 with weight distribution. Nearest I see is Pro Series RB3-# PS49581? Other suggestions? Also, does this mean I can use the 500/5000lbs for filtering travel trailers, instead of 350/3500?

Your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe can be equipped with either a 1-1/4-inch Class II or a 2-inch Class III hitch receiver, but only the Class III type can be used with weight distribution. The hitch you need for weight distribution is the Draw-Tite Max Frame # 75684. This hitch for your Santa Fe will work only on the versions without the dual exhausts.

For a wiring harness you can use # 118415 if the car does not have the factory tow package or part # 118258 if it does. I have linked installation videos for both harnesses.

Selection of a weight distribution system requires you to know your trailer's fully-loaded ready-for-the-road tongue weight. This can be measured using a scale like the etrailer # e99044 or by one of the methods outlined in the linked article. Once you know your loaded trailer tongue weight you will add to this the weight of anything in the vehicle that sits behind the rear axle, such as a loaded cooler or generator. This total effective tongue weight is what you will use to select a weight distribution system.

You want to choose a system such that your total tongue weight falls into the middle of its operating range. This will ensure the system is tuned properly; if the system is rated too high it will deliver stiff handling and if it is rated too low it will not provide the desired weight redistribution to the vehicle's front axle. Be sure to confirm your vehicle's capacities (either in the manual or with your dealership) before selecting and towing a trailer. If your car is rated lower than the hitch you install that lower vehicle limit becomes the overall limit for the system.

I suggest you start off by reading the linked article on weight distribution; this will give you good background on the types of systems available and which will best suit your particular circumstances. Then you can use the link provided to review systems based on your total effective tongue weight. The Pro Series system # PS49581 will be a good choice for tongue weight in the 400-lb range. You will need to add a hitch ball # A-90 and if you wish you can add sway control # 83660.
