Do Edge Programmers Put Additional Strain on Vehicle Battery  

Question:

Hello I habe a Ford F-150 2004 new body style with 119xxx miles on it and I just bought a Edge programmer that fits my 4.6l truck and as soon as I pluged it in like 10mins later my batter light popped up I drive like 1hr back home turn off my truck and tired to turn It back on and it was dead It was my alternator I want to know if the programmer messes with the alternator or what please help me? I want to plug me programmer back on but Im scared it might damage something else if it was the programmer in the first place. Please some one help

Programmers like the Edge Evolution Programmer # EP15051 do not put any additional strain on the charging system of a vehicle. Most likely what happened is that your battery was in a weakened state and during the programming process the battery got ran down a bit since the key has to be turned on without the engine running. Either way, a healthy battery/alternator can handle this without a problem so the problem you have now would have come up eventually. With that being said, we have had reports of these older Edges draining the battery over long periods of the vehicle not being used.

This is not the case of the current models of the Edge Evolutions like the # EP59YR.
