Why the Power Wire for a T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Needs a Direct Connection to the Battery

The video and instructions say to run the power wire all the way to the battery. On the Edge, there is a power port in the left rear trim panel in the cargo area, just in front of the left tail light. I was wondering why the power wire could not just be connected to this wire instead, since it is right there and has plenty of capacity to run the lights.

T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118551, requires a direct connection to the battery. This is because if it is tapped into another power source whatever else is using that power source could cause it to overload, damaging the sensitive wiring, taillights, and any number of other electrical components in the vehicle.

The protection that the modulite supplies is dependent on the battery connection. This is so that the vehicles sensitive wiring is not used to provide power to the trailer. Your 2008 Ford Edge is not designed to carry the extra amperage draw that trailer lighting requires.
