Hitch Extender Recommendation for a Can Am Commander for Salt Spreader
Question:
I need a hitch extension approx 14-18inch long for my Can Am Commander Utv/side bayside. I would like to attach a salt spreader approx weight with salt 150-200lbs. This would be for light residential use only, no commercial use. Is the a vertical load limit for these extensions? Are there one that offer additional strength by maybe having an additional vertical metal plate inside the extension? Would you recommend a longer than need extension that would allow more of the extension inside the receiver and just drilling a new pin hole further from the recessed end? Thanks

If your Can Am Commander has a 2 inch hitch the hitch extender that would most likely work best for you would be the # HE18.
This product has more than enough capacity for your spreader, but you should note that when you use a hitch extender like this you end up cutting the capacity of the hitch in half due to the additional leverage created.
You will need to make sure the hitch on your Commander has at least twice the capacity for the weight of your salt spreader. Especially if your spreader doesn't have wheels and is totally supported by the hitch it installs into. Then all of the weight of the spreader will be considered tongue weight.
The capacities for this extender are 3500 lbs gross trailer weight, 350 lbs tongue weight.
