Is There A Gap Between The Motorhome Bumper And The Roadmaster Defender When Installed

Question:

I have a 4 Winds chateau Citation 28BK class C with a Sterling all terrain tow bar that I want to use to tow a 2012 Fiat 500. The hitch will require a 6 inch hitch to be level. question:will I be able to use the tow defender effectively, or will there be a large opening between the motorhome bumper and the beginning of the defender?

The collar on the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screening, part # RM-4700 attaches to the tow bar and will work with any 2 inch receiver hitch. When installed you will have about a 1 to 1-1/2 foot gap between the Defender and the motorhome bumper. The # RM-4700 will work with any Roadmaster Tow Bars like the Sterling, part # RM-576 with quick disconnects. This is not compatible with MX series base plates on the towed vehicle.

I called my contact at Roadmaster and asked about the gap and they told me if you have mudflaps on the motorhome, and if they drag the ground when traveling over dips in the road you will have more debris flying around. They said they always recommend raising the mudflaps so that there is at least 4 inches of clearance between the bottom of the mudflap and the ground. On the front of the # RM-4700 there is material that does hang down about 4 or 5 inches so that may help deflect a lot of the road debris as well.

When fully extended the Defender measures 40 X 72 inches, and rolls up to 4 inch diameter for storage.
