Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 1,600 lb Tongue Weight Setup

Need help to determine the correct weight distribution hitch. I have a tent trailer that has a tongue weight of 400 lbs but also has a 6x9foot bed behind the tongue for loading two quads. Sometimes I camp with two quads and sometimes I dont. Each quad weighs 600 lbs. Which weight distribution hitch should I use?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Since you will have varying tongue weights since the quads won't always be with you I would recommend you go with a system rated for the extra weight of them since that will be the situation where you would need the WD system the most.

Since your unloaded tongue weight is 400 lbs and then each quad weighs 600 lbs you would be looking at around 1,600 lbs of tongue weight. For a system rated for that you would want the Straitline System part # RP66075 and shank # RP54977. You should note that all the systems rated this high will require the use of a 2-1/2 inch hitch installed on the vehicle.
