Brake Controller Recommendation And Installation For 2008 Jeep Liberty With 7-Way Connector

I would like to purchase a brake controller for a 2008 Jeep Liberty. My vehicle has the 7 wire connector already with 7 wires coming out the back. My problem is, I dont know where the harness leads to, to connect the controller. Can you help me with that? Thank you.

The brake controller I recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is one of our most popular brake controllers because it is easy to set up and use and operate. I have attached a link to a helpful article about brake controllers you can check out.

You will also need an installation kit when installing the brake controller. You will need part # 5506 with a 30-amp circuit breaker. Since the Liberty does not come pre-wired, an installation kit is needed.

You will need to attach the blue wire from the brake controller harness to the 7-way connector at the rear of your vehicle. I have attached a photo that shows where the brake controller pin is located on the 7-way. For additional wire to run to the 7-way I recommend using part # 10-1-1. This is 10-gauge wire and is sold by the foot.

You will need to attach the red wire from the harness to the cold side of the stop light switch located at the top of your brake pedal. Attach it to the side that only shows power when the brake pedal is pressed. When installing the brake controller, you will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires.

The black wire needs to be run to the positive side of the battery using the # 5505 kit, and the white wire is the ground which should be run to the negative side of the battery.

I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring is run when installing a brake controller. I have also attached a couple of helpful articles you can take a look at.
