How Can I use a 2 Inch Bike Rack on 2008 Jetta with a 1-1/4 Inch Class I Hitch
Question:
I recently received a class I hitch for my 08 Jetta. I have a bike rack that I want to attach to it but they are different sizes. The bike rack fits a standard size hitch and I think this one is smaller. Do you make an adapter for it?

Expert Reply:
We offer 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch hitch adapter, part # HTAD. However, using any adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half. When using this adapter, you will only be able to carry 100lbs on the hitch, including the weight of the bike rack, the bikes you are carrying, and also anything in the trunk or cargo area of your vehicle. The best way to use your hitch at its full carrying potential would be to use a bike rack that is specifically designed to work with a class I hitch.
We carry a great selection of bike racks specifically designed for use with a class I hitch. The product specs will indicate whether each hitch can be used with a class I hitch. You can see these racks by using the link that will be provided below.
