Wiring Extension for Flat Towing a Vehicle Behind Monaco RV with 7-Way Trailer Connector

I have a Monaco RV with the amber bulb for the turn signal. My current tow vehicle has a 7 pin connector on it. I have purchased a new tow vehicle and have bought the 11-408 4 way socket set for installation. The information on the Blue Ox site says I need an adapter for the cable that connects the RV to the tow. My existing cable has the 7 pin large diameter connector on each end, the blue cable. Should I install one of the 11-893 receptacles on the new tow instead of the smaller chrome one? Or can I remove the adapter on my current cable and plug it into the small 11-408?

In order to determine the proper set up for your new towed vehicle (called a toad; the vehicle you will be flat towing behind the motor home) I would need to know the year, make, and model of that vehicle.

Most of the tow bar wiring uses a 4-Way flat trailer connector with a few exceptions. Since your RV has a 7-Way trailer connector ideally you would use a cable that has a 7-Way on one end to plug into the RV and a matching connector on the other end for the tow bar wiring/lighting system you are using on the toad.

Or you could use kit # RM-164-7 which is a 7-Way to 4-Way round. You would just cut the connector off of the wiring used on the toad and hardwire the blunt cut wires to the back of the 4-Way included in the kit.

Or if you wanted to keep the blue harness you have now you would use # PK12-707E (not # PK12703) and hardwire the wiring on the toad to the back of it. I have included a link to a help article that shows the different way the connectors are configured. Remember at the front of the toad it will be a vehicle side connector.
