Tips for Trimming Fascia on 2008 Honda Element SC to Install Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 75659

Hey Etrailer Team! Just in the process of purchasing a used 2008 Honda Element SC. Desire to use a more upscale hitch by Draftmaster for transporting two road bikes and a tandem. The Draftmaster distributor has recommend a 2inch hitch, and based upon your recommendation, I am considering obtaining a Hidden Hitch and self installing. From what I read on your site today, there will be a need to trim the bummer/Fascia of the 2008 Honda E SC to allow an opening for the hitch to clear once installed. What tools, processed, and/or methods are best for effectively artistically trimming the bumper opening? My wife will kill me if I screw this up...especially since I have not told her of the need to trim yet!. If you have pictures or steps you could share of the trim process that would be appreciated. Thanks,

What is that saying? Happy wife, happy life!

With your life on the line, I want to provide you with as much information as I can when it comes to trimming the fascia on your new 2008 Honda Element SC in order to install the Draw-Tite Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 75659.

I have attached a help article which is filled with hitch installation tips including cutting the fascia on your vehicle. I recommend that you start by marking where you plan to cut. (I can't help but hear that Disney character, Handy Manny, saying "measure twice, cut once.") Next you will want to use a new sharp pair of tin snips, a utility knife, or an electric rotary cutting tool to make your cut. If you use a utility knife it is best to make multiple long, light cuts to avoid jagged edges. Once you are done you can use a fine grit sandpaper to smooth the edges.

I hope that you find these tips helpful and as long as you take your time, I think that you will find this to be a pretty simple process. Good luck with the install.
