Removing a Broken Weld Nut from Inside of Vehicle Frame

Question:

HI there,i have a 2007 grand caravan with stow and go and was in the process of installing a new hitch and one of the weldnuts broke on the bigger bolts and the other just got stuck half way through. I saw your video but my frame is very different then the one in this video. Access is very limited. Any advice for me on how to fix this? thanks so much!

There are a couple things you can do to remove your current weld nut. One is using a drill bit to expand the hole slightly.

Because of your limited access, I would use a bolt leader like # 80101-1 to fishwire bolts through the frame of your vehicle. Since you have broken weld nuts, you will have to use different hardware to complete installation. With that said, you will need spacer blocks # RP3022, 1/2 inch carriage bolts, Conical tooth washers # 01292-008 (tooth side facing towards the hitch) and hex nuts # 55178 for your setup. Please note that you will want 1 of each for each weld nut that is broken and the spacer block should be slightly larger than the width of your frame rail.

Take a look at both videos attached to act as a guide.
