How to Determine if a Sidewinder from One 5th Wheel Trailer Will Fit on a Different Trailer

Question:

I currently own a 2012 Cougar 324RLB 5th wheel with a Reese 5th Airborne Sidewinder installed on the trailer, and a Reese Elite hitch in my 2012 Ram 3500 Mega Cab dually. I purchased and installed the custom wedge for the Reese Elite. All works wonderfully Now, however, we are contemplating the purchase of a 2014 Palomino Sabre 33BHOK 5th wheel. My questions: 1 What parts will I need to replace to get the 5th Sidewinder to fit onto the new trailer? Does the entire unit need replacing, or just the mounting section once the factory pin box is removed from the new unit? How does one order the correct parts for the new trailer? 2 Didnt think of it at the time, but when I purchased the current trailer new 2 yrs ago, the RV dealership replaced the factory pin box with the current 5th Sidewinder I didnt get the old part/pin box back. Does this figure into which parts should or should not be removed when I ask the new dealership to remove the current sidewinder and possibly install if I decide to trade in? Will I need to order a new factory pin box for the Cougar once sidewinder removed, or will there be hardware remaining such that any king pin can be directly bolted onto remaining piece? Thx!!

To determine if there is a Sidewinder and/or 5th Airborne Sidewinder for the new trailer I will need to know the manufacturer and model number of the pin box itself. This information should be on a sticker or plate on the pin box.

On most 5th wheel trailers, there are wings that stick out of the overhang that are part of the frame/chassis structure. the pin box bolts to it so on your existing trailer you would want to get the pin box, including the turret that is bolted to those wings I mentioned.

You would not have to order a new or different factory pin box for the trailer. I just need to know what the OEM pin box is to see if it works with the one you have or if a different one is needed. In some cases you might be able to just replace the turret and keep everything else. (The turret part looks like # RP61300. There are different turrets for different pin boxes.)

So right now I just need to know the pin box manufacturer and model number on the new trailer. And it would also help if you could tell me the model Sidewinder you are using now. I have included a link to our help article on Sidewinders for you.
