Hitch Recommendation to Carry 4 Road Bikes on a 2002 Subaru Outback Wagon L.L. Bean Edition

Hello, I have a 2002 subaru outback ll bean edition with no hitch. What would be the best way to carry 4 road bikes on a long distance trip? Thanks

In order to transport 4 road bikes on a long distance trip with your 2002 Subaru Outback L.L. Bean Edition, I recommend installing the Curt Class II Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C12270, and using a hitch mounted bike rack like the Thule Hitching Post Pro, # TH934XTR. It's one of our most popular racks because of its quality and price.

In addition to the hitch and bike rack, you will also need Support Straps, # 18050. Not only is this a great way to add stability to the rack for your long distance trip but Curt also requires them for all non-trailer loads including bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.

Last but not least, if you plan on carrying women's, children's or alternative framed bikes, I recommend an adapter bar like the Swagman Easy-Out, # 64005. This bar attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more evenly in the carrier while providing more ground clearance.

I have attached a few short videos for you.
