Can Underslung Axles Be Used on a Small Homemade Trailer

I am making a homemade trailer and would like to go with your 60inch 2k lb axle kit 5 on 4 1/2, a spring kit, wheels w/ tires 13, nice sexy looking round steel fenders and a few other accessories I will choose. #1 - Ive been reading up on some of the trailers from Harbor Freight yes, I know, cheap and some forums experts frown on doing an under slung spring as the bolts/buts are not designed to take the full weight of the trailer/vehicle. How is the design you have different that it will allow this mounting method? #2 - I estimate the trailer wight after building will be between 800 and 1000 lbs. Will your 1000 # spring kit provide enough cushion/give so my trailer doesnt shake itself apart? Im chomping at the bit and some items are in my cart waiting for me to place the order. : P Please feel free to make a suggestion as to any parts that will work well in my application. Thank you much!

People run underslung trailer axles all the time. We have yet to hear of someone with an issue due to it. Especially on a lighter trailer like what you are building. If that is the route you would prefer to go with the axle configuration you would be just fine.

A 1,000 lb spring like the part # SP-177275 is a slipper spring that would work well considering the weight of your trailer. Since trailers don't typically run shocks they can be a bit bouncy, especially when unloaded.
