I have a 1992 ford explorer that I want to change the trailor lights plug from a 7round to a 4flat plug.What is the proper wire colors to match?

To go from a 7-way trailer connector to a 4-way would be pretty easy to do if you went with an adapter like the part # 47345. This would plug right into your 7-way and would provide you with a 4-way.
Or you could tap into the 7-way wiring with the part # 18002 and you would have both connections. This would require you to use the included quick splices to tap into the taillight circuits of the 7-way.
I attached a picture that has a diagram for how a 7-way normally gets wired. You would just need to match up the colors of the 4-way to the pin locations of the diagram that share the same color.
