Will Yakima Roof Cargo Carrier, # Y07080, Fit On 1972 VW Squareback

Question:

# A21030 and # Y07080 roof racks are they suitable for a 72 VW Squareback? I would like to put rack on top of 72 VW Squareback.

First thing is to find out the roof capacity of your 1972 VW Squareback to make sure it will be able to handle a roof rack with a load.

The roof cargo carriers we carry are made to attach to a crossbar on the roof. We have the Darby Turbo-Rack Universal Single-Bar Roof Rack, # DTA968, which attaches to the vehicle by a strap that runs from drivers side to passenger side along the roof on the inside of the vehicle. You would need two of them. The only problem with that application is that you would need a crossbar at the front of the vehicle and a crossbar at the rear of your vehicle, and on your vehicle I do not think you would have a place to attach the rear crossbar.

On the SportRack Roof Cargo Carrier, # A21030, it is made to attach to crossbars of an existing roof rack. The dimensions of the carrier is 44-3/4 inches long x 39 inches wide x 6-1/4 inches tall and the weight capacity is 110 lbs.

On the Yakima Roof Cargo Carrier, # Y07080, it also attaches to an existing roof rack. The dimensions of the carrier is 52 inches long x 48 inches wide x 6-1/2 inches tall and the weight capacity is 130 lbs.
