Transmission Cooler with Fan Recommendation for a 2003 Chevy Silverado
Question:
2003 Silverado 2500HD with towing/snow plow package including factory transmission cooler. I wanted to purchase and install the Derale Atomic Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/fan on my truck. I tow a 6000lbs camper in the summer and plow snow in the winter. If I install this kit, will I be bypassing my factory transmission cooler or will both coolers be working? If using both coolers, is there any additional parts that I would need to purchase? Also, is it worth it to install a deeper aluminum finned transmission pan for added cooling? thanks

Expert Reply:
When you install the Derale Atomic-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan # D13950 that you referenced you can either replace your current cooler or you can install this one after the factory cooler so that you get the cooling power of both. The most common and recommended method would be to put this cooler down stream of your factory cooler so that is what I would recommend for you.
All you would need is the cooler and the fitting part # D13035 and you would be good to go.
The # D13950 is a very effective and efficient cooler setup that would prevent you from having to also get a pan cooler as well.
