Installing a 4-Pole to 7-Way Adapter on 2014 Honda Ridgeline

I order the wiring 118400 for my 2014 Ridgeline and the 4 by 7 pin socket. I have it installed and it worked great. My question is when I hook up my trailer brake wiring. I know the blue wire goes to the brake controller. Does the black wire need power to make the brakes on the trailer work. I understand the yellow wire. Thank you

Once the # 118400 is installed, you can use the # ETBC7 install kit. The kit includes all the necessary wire, circuit breakers and a # 37185 adapter to convert the 4 pole to a 7-way.

The power from the brake controller, as you said, is delivered on the blue wire. The black wire would run to the positive battery terminal through a 40 amp circuit breaker like part # 9510. This circuit would serve as a 12-volt accessory power feed to the trailer. There's no need to hook up the 12-volt circuit unless there's an accessory on the trailer that would need it. Typically, the circuit would be used to maintain a trailer mounted battery. It will keep a charged battery in good shape but wouldn't be able to charge a depleted battery.

I've linked you to an install video and some FAQ articles you might find helpful.
