Cable Layers on Hand Winch and Effect on Capacity

Can someone explain the difference between the First Layer and Full Drum capacities list for the Fulton FK15500301 Winch? Just wondering if it will lift the roof of my popup camper. The current winch is a Goshen DLB1200 and is rated for 1200lbs.

In a nutshell, the more layers of rope or cable wrapped around the drum, the lower the capacity goes. Each layer typically reduces the capacity from 13-25 percent.

If your current winch with the 1500 lb capacity has been doing the job for you, a winch with the same or greater capacity should work fine for you.

I will link you to our Winch FAQ page, you can find the link below. This page addresses electric winches, but the information regarding the drum capacities would apply to hand winches as well.
