The Curt T-Connector harness # 56042 for the 2014 Toyota Highlander is intended for vehicles that have the factory tow package installed. Such trucks, and also those without the tow package, will have a square connector that mates with the one on the harness (please see the linked photo) located under the rear tray you removed. It may be that the connector is tucked up out of the way or taped to other wiring to keep it out of harm's way. It should be there whether or not you have the tow package.
If your truck does not have the factory tow package then you will use another wiring kit, part # C56217, that uses the same connection point. Instructions for both harnesses are linked for you.
The 2013, 2014 and 2015 Highlander model years are all part of the same 3rd generation of the vehicle but since it is possible that wiring may be repositioned by the factory you can refer to both of the linked videos (for 2013 and 2015 Highlanders) for help in finding your wiring connector.
