2004 was a split model year for the Ford F150. Two F150 models were offered, the Heritage which was the rounded body style like the 2003 model or the new body style, like the 2005 model.

The hitch you need will depend on which body style your truck is.

If you have the new body style, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 41549. Some of the new body trucks had a vibration dampener at the rear of the vehicle. The hitch includes a bracket that lets the vibration dampener be re-installed, but NOT on trucks with the (flareside a/k/a stepside) bed. The hitch mounts to existing holes in the sides of the frame members. If you don't have a trailer connector, you can add one using part # 118247.

If you have the old body style (Heritage), the hitch installs using existing holes in the bottom of the frame members. If that's the case, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 75065. If you need a 4 pole trailer connector, use part # 118344.

I've linked you to some install videos that you might find helpful.
