Should RV Scare Lights Turn Off and On

I have a 2004 keystone challenger 5th wheel. The scare lights are weird I turn them on and they work like flood lights. But after 2-3 minutes they shut off and then come on at different intervals of time on and off. How do I get them to stay on? Without them coming on and off. Is this why they are called scare lights?

Expert Reply:

A scare light is a light designed to brightly illuminate the sides of a trailer as a way to scare of a possible intruder. Sometimes they are motion detector style lights that will turn off and on as they detect motion.

It is possible that your lights are motion detected lights, or they are drawing too much amperage so they shut off and turn back on as a circuit breaker potentially trips. If you can turn on one at a time instead of all of them you should be able to tell if the problem is motion or overdrawing. If they stay on consistently with just one light on then an overdrawing situation. If they act the same then it's most likely motion.
