Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch And Brackets For 2015 Ram 2500 Crew With 6.4 Liter Hemi And Short Bed

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 6.4 litre Hemi crewcab short bed. I am going to buy either the 2016 Arctic Fox 29-5T or 32-5M. My concern is the hitch height, I want the trailer to ride level. So my question is what hitch will be the right height. Also do you think my truck will be maxed out with the weight of the 32-5M. I know it would be fine on the total weight but Im concerned about the weight in the bed of the truck. Thank you

From my research I found the 2015 Ram Crew with a 6.4 liter Hemi has a total trailer towing capacity of 15,850 lbs.

I found the Gross Vehicle Weight of the Artic Fox 29-5T is 15,700 lbs and the 32-5M is 16,500 lbs. You will certainly be pushing the limits of your truck with the 29-5T and would exceed the capacity of your truck with the 32-5M.

With the short bed on your truck you will either need a sliding fifth wheel hitch or you will need a Sidewinder pin box on your trailer, so you can execute turns without hitting your cab with the trailer.

The fifth wheel hitch I recommend is the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider, part # C16536. This is a 20,000 hitch and it has dual jaws for more jaw-to-king-pin contact. The Q20 also has a non-binding slider which makes it easier to turn safely at slow speeds. I have attached a link to a product review video you can check out.

The bed rails I recommend is part # C16427-204. There is no drilling required when installing these custom brackets and that means the installation time is cut in half.

As far as the height of your trailer, the Q20 has a height adjustment between 17-1/2 and 21-1/2 inches.
