Added Surge Brakes to a Pontoon Boat Trailer with 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern

I have a 1989 playtime pontoon trailer w/dual axles and 4.80-12 tires 4 bolt x 4 Do you have a kit or list of parts i would use to add breaks on one of the axles? Im still under 3,000# but i would like just a little extra stopping power.

We have two different drums available for your 4 on 4 setup, but in order to determine which is correct, we need to get your old bearing numbers. Your hubs will have two bearings, an inner and an outer. When we determine what the bearing numbers are we can find the right hub/drum.

The numbers will be stamped on the bearings themselves. You only need to disassemble one side of the trailer. I have added a link to a video that covers removing seals and bearings from a trailer hub.

If your axles do not have brake flanges, you would need to replace the spindles or the axle. Flanges are very difficult to weld onto spindles and typically this is done in a very tight, computer-aided jig at an axle manufacturing facility.

Before you remove the hub, look behind it and see if you can see a flange. It should be a square piece of steel welded to the spindle with 4 holes, one in each corner. It would look something like this spindle, part # TRU74FR .
