The Yakima SpareRide 2 Bike Carrier # Y02599 has a locking knob that when in the LOCKED position spins freely in both directions and should make no noise at all. If yours if making a clicking sound when you try to turn it to the left to remove the rack it might be that the lock mechanism is not fully releasing.
My contact at Yakima suggests you turn the key to lock the carrier and verify that the red know spins freely. If so again try to fully unlock the knob. If it does not engage you can try applying a spray-in lubricant into the key slot, such as WD40 or PB Blaster. If this too fails to get the knob to engage properly a replacement is available as part # 8890239. This kit includes a control key to remove your lock core and new knob and threaded shaft.
