Solutions for Chucking Fifth Wheel Setup When Towing

Have Husky 20k hd 5th wheel hitch. There is a clunking sound when I brake or when accelerating from a stop. Is this normal? Is there an adjustment for this? Seems I hear it now but not a specific noise I recognized from the past.

What you described sounds like chucking. Chucking is the sound you are describing that comes from the moving parts of the hitch. When you start and stop the play moves back and forth and causes the sound you are hearing.

The only real solutions would be to upgrade to a hitch that is cushioned and has a jaw system that provides better king pin contact to reduce movement like the Reese 20 Hitch Part # RP30081.

Or you can go with a cushioned pin box like a Fifth Airborne. But you would first need to know what pin box you have on your trailer to pick out the correct one. See help article I attached that shows which one works for each pin box.
