Are the Cables on the OutWay Bike Carrier Better than Nylon Straps

I was going over a pothole and had 2 bikes on my rack. One strap broke, the strap looked OK, but it could happen again. Are braided steel ones much stronger or is it worthwhile to invest in a hitch?

Did the strap actually break or did it just pop off due to the force of the impact of hitting the pothole? If it just came off then make sure that you have the fit-dial setting correct for the vehicle and that you are getting the straps tight enough on the bike carrier.
The cables on the OutWay # TH45JV are much, much stronger and more durable than nylon straps. I own an original OutWay and it is by far the best trunk mount carrier I have owned.
A hitch would be a good investment if you want to use it for other things like a cargo carrier or towing. I would need to know the year, make, and model of the vehicle to make a recommendation.
