Question:

Looking for class IV ball mount with 2 rise. The ball needs to be 2 5/16. Also looking at either prodigy or P3 brake controller. Any recommendations?

The closest fixed ball mount we have to a 2 inch rise is the Ball Mount 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop, 6,000 lbs, item # 2753. We also have the Cushioned Ball Mount 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop, item # AMSC4. If you need a higher rated ball mount for your towing needs the # AMSC4 ball mount has a 10,000 pound capacity.

I would recommend the higher 2-3/4 inch ball mount to allow for a bit of rear end sag when a trailer is attached.

We have several 2-5/16 inch balls, you will need to select one with the appropriate weight capacity. I would recommend the Hitch Ball with 2-5/16 inch Diameter and Medium Shank, 6,000 lbs GTW - Chrome, item # 19287 for the lower rated ball mounts recommended above and the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set with 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch Hitch Balls - Chrome, item # 904B, for the 10,000 pound rated ball mount.

The brake controller I would recommend depends on your towing situation. If you will not be towing often with this vehicle and/or the loads you will be towing remain approximately the same then I would recommend the Prodigy P2, item # 90885. If you will be towing often with varying loads or using an electric over hydraulic braking system on a trailer then the P-3, item # 90195 would suit your situation better.

A brake controller installation on your Tundra is simple if you have the factory 7-way installed on the vehicle. You will just need to order the brake controller you choose along with the Tekonsha Wire Harness for Toyota and Lexus Vehicles, item # 3040-P. This connector will plug directly into the Prodigy or P-3 brake controller and into the connector located underneath and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. You will then have to ground the supplied ground wire and installation is complete.

If you do not have a factory 7-Way installed on your vehicle you will need to use the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, and a 4-Pole Hardwire Kit Including Circuit Tester - 2010 Toyota Tundra, item # 18252, to install the brake controller and trailer connector at the back of the vehicle. We have detailed instructions for installing a brake controller from scratch (see link) for you to follow.
