Replacing 7-Way Trailer Connector and Wiring Harness of 2007 Silverado Classic

Hi. I have a 2007 Silverado Classic with the 7 wire factory trailer wiring harness. My dog literally ate the plug and destroyed about 6 inches of the wiring behind the plug. It looks like it is not a Tee type by is direct-wired into the vehicles wiring. I would like to get a replacement harness and just splice in the new plug, but Im confusing as to which one to buy. Thank you for your help.

Wow, that's a new one! At least it wasn't your homework!

The # HM40975 7-way/4-pole you mentioned would be an excellent choice. Since some of the wiring is damaged, you'll also need a # PK11998 pigtail. Wire the pigtail into the what's left of the original wiring harness. Here's how the pigtail would wire up to the existing wiring:

Red pigtail wire to yellow vehicle wiring harness wire-left turn/brake
White pigtail wire grounds to white harness wire-ground
Blue pigtail wire to blue harness wire-brake controller output
Green pigtail to green harness wire-right turn/brake
Black pigtail to red or orange harness wire-12-volt accessory power to trailer
Brown pigtail wire to brown harness wire-running lights
Yellow harness wire to light green harness wire-reverse lights

Keep in mind that the wiring colors on vehicles isn't always consistent. We recommend using a circuit tester like part # 40376 to verify your connections. You could use heat shrink butt connectors like # DW05745-5 and # DW05744-5.
