How to Wire Up New 4-Way to Trailer that Doesn't Use Standard Wiring Colors

My trailer has a red and black wire as well as a brown and white wire. The new connector has yellow, green, brown and white. What connects to what?

Your new connector uses the standard trailer wiring color code of:

White for ground
Green for right stop/turn
Yellow for left stop/turn
Brown for running lights

Your trailer most likely was wired with the color of wire that was most convenient so you will need to use a 12 volt battery with a jumper wire to test all of the circuits by applying voltage to each wire to see what is what. Most likely white is ground and brown is running lights.
