Adding a Single Yakima Roof Rack Crossbar to the Roof of a 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I have a 2015 tacoma with a topper on the bed. I have a Yakima rack set on the topper. I want to move one bar forward onto the cab - spread the distance for carrying a long kayak and sometimes a ladder. I want to have one bar on the cab and one on the topper. Im trying to figure out if I can move my bar with Q clips. Ive also looked at landing pads but hate to drill into the roof. Do I need new towers? What do I need? I only need one pair of whatever it takes. Thanks for helping with my confusion.

I will be happy to help you out. To add just one crossbar to the cab roof of your 2015 Toyota Tacoma you will need a few parts and unfortunately the Q clips are a discontinued part. Instead you'll use BaseLine towers and BaseClips.

First, for a naked roof (no side rails or anything else on the roof) you will need one 60 inch JetStream bar, # 8880649, 2 BaseLine Towers, # Y00150, and the right set of clips. If you want the new bar towards the rear of the cab then use BaseClip # Y06128. If you want the bar closer to the front of the cab use BaseClip # Y06125. I have linked a video that shows an example installation of the whole system (front and rear bars) that you can use as a guide.

Please note that the truck bed and cab parts of the truck can move somewhat independently of each other. Keep this in mind when carrying things on the roof rack.
