Spare Tire Bike Rack Recommendation for 2008 Toyota RAV4 That Allows Cover to Be Reinstalled

Question:

I am looking for a spare tire mount bike rack for my 2008 Toyota RAV 4. It appears that the base plate on the Yakima Spare Ride 2 Bike Carrier extends an inch or so beyond the spare tire hub which would NOT allow replacement of the plastic spare tire cover when the bike rack is not in use. Is that correct?

We had a customer with a similar Rav4 as yours (2008 model) come back and write us a review and say that if you use the shorter adapter that comes with the Yakima SpareRide # Y02599 you can reinstall the wheel cover when you remove the rack from the adapter.

If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Swagman Easy-Out Women's and Alternative Frame Bike Adapter # 64005 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
