Differences Between Transmission Coolers, Oil Relocating Filters, and Transmission Filters
Question:
I have seen aftermarket oil relocating systems that allow you to move your oil filter to a more covenant spot, that take off the shelf oil filters. Whats the difference between those and this one, besides the fact of this filter having a 15.00 dollar replacement? Is there a magnet inside this filter that traps the metal shavings? Thanks

The filter that comes with Derale Remote Transmission Filter Kit, # D13090, is an oil filter so in terms of how it filters, it functions the same way as the oil filter for the engine oil on your 2006 Dodge Caravan.
The Derale Remote Transmission Filter Kit, # D13090, can use off the shelf filters. The included filter does not use magnets. The outside diameter of the filter is 3-1/2 inches. It has 3/4 inch-16 threads.
The filter landing is 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches.
The inlet/outlet size for the hose is 3/8 inches NPT. The hose is also a 3/8 inch hose and is 4 feet long.
The barb size is 3/8 inches.
The idea is that this type of filtration will extend the time between transmission fluid changes and increase fluid capacity. You would have to check your owners manual, but the recommended miles between fluid changes is 15,000 to 30,000 miles; something a lot of people never think about in the time they own their vehicles.
If you plan on doing a lot of towing, I think adding this system is a good idea. But if you plan on infrequent towing, or seasonal towing, then this system is not 100 percent necessary. It is not designed to keep the transmission fluid cool. On the other hand, transmission coolers do not filter the fluid.
